Took out the annoying Push button start button and push/pull kill switch..and added all new wires, switches and black plug to fill the huge hole in dash.

Last week I replaced both rear axle seals and the brake shaft seal on my 1986 312-8. Next I am going to try to fix my worn out Carter carburetor. the housing where the throttle shaft goes into the carburetor is worn out. I am going to look at making a bushing in the machine shop to repair it as long as it is only the top that is worn out. Tractor runs ok like it is however it is running to lean.

I have another restored 1848 to bring over that will live here now also. Still 1 more GT1100 at home and 1 at the cabin. Plus a C175 disassembled and on pause of restoration. a bunch of decks for spares. I think the GT1600 shown here maybe next, I have the engine ready to reassemble after being bored.

Dug these old girls out of the weeds today for a couple hundred bucks. To my surprise the 520 actually started with some make shift gas line but the 314-8 which reads to be an 02  model is in tough shape with everything seized and locked up sadly it only has 200 hours on it with a like new 42” deck.

I lucked out that my local hardware store has a good selection of brass bushings. I removed the shaft and installed the bushing. Back in business.

@Matthew Miller has a Walbro.

Might not be a bushing.  

 

As a side note. .... to remove the shaft, be VERY CAREFUL about the screws holding the blade. Many of them are staked in place and break off.

I changed engine oil after ~ 20 hours, I put mineral oil,Sae 30 which I found on local website, according to specs am good to go..

I have two possibilities for this kit. Both are predominantly snow movers. 

In fact they're almost never used for anything else.  

The foot control would be nice.

I did get them pressure washed today and the 520 didn’t come out bad, it’s more pink than red but I think with some was it might get some color back but otherwise it’s in nice shape for the most part. It runs good but might need a carb cleaning in the near future as it has a surge down low but cleans up at wide open. It’s missing some pieces I’ll have to track down but right now I have the rear end draining of all the water/oil and the fuel tank out and trying to clean all the sludge out while I wait for the new Dorman universal fuel sender and grommet/shut off valve. 
 

The 314-8 came out okay everything is pretty much seized though from the steering to the clutch and brake pedals. The fuse box had been cut off the harness for some reason and some other bits but nothing that can’t be fixed in due time as it’s gonna need a lot already. The engine shows promise though it does turn over fine and has compression which is the biggest thing that’ll determine fixing it up as I intend to gift it to my brother when it’s finished. So it’s getting soaked down with whatever penetrating oil I have handy haha. Will try to get some pictures of them tomorrow though!

Lemme know what your cure is. I got one the same thing and cleaned it the proverbial @Ed Kennell three times with massive doses of sea foam and still not right.
