A little maintenence on the "Sparky" tractor. @Sparky

 

The new owner has decided that new more aggressive shoes are acceptable. 

 

Needed a new shifter boot.  

Also doing a transmission fluid change. 

 

Our workshop smells like old gear ⚙️ oil 🛢

She went with exactly what's on Millie. I believe those are the wheels we bought from you as well.  

 

Deestone 23 x 8.50 x 12 AG rears with Deestone 4.00 x 8 tri ribs up front.

Today was buttoning things up after work on the C-141. It’s coming together.

The hood hinge was loose and the bolts didn’t stay tight. It was temporarily put together today I finalized it.

The exhaust pipe was reattached. I also cut an unneeded bracket off the muffler and painted it.

 

I also built a battery hold down. It’s safe now @ebinmaine no bungee cord here now. The last major thing is painting the bodywork. I also have to put the handles on the throttle and choke.

Possibly more progress tomorrow.

Maybe it's the camera angle hiding it, but you’ll definitely need a brace to hold the weight of that muffler stack

@Handy Don beat me to it. The weight of the muffler may not seem like much but with engine vibration it will take a toll on the pipe or the threads in the engine block if you don't support it.

Went and picked us up about 15 gallons of good usable gasoline that isn't laced with booze. Regular everyday 87 octane is running around $3, give or take.

90 octane non-ethanol was $4.31 and worth every single penny of the difference.

The rear tires that were on Sparky are VERY resistant to be removed. My HF Manual Tire Changer won't do it. 

I found some other rims from stock. 

 

That'll be addressed later. 

 

The front wheels are the correct narrow types. The tri ribs will work great on them.  

 

 

I started adding some of the transmission fluid. I even remembered to install the drain plug!!!

Today like I said the plan for today was yesterday, progress was made. I took @Handy Dons and @953 nuts advice and built a brace for the exhaust on the C-141. I also drilled and tapped the Throttle and Choke handles to 1/4-20. All that has to be done now, is cutting the heads off the bolts and welding them to the levers. Definitely a job for tomorrow.

@ebinmaine @Sparky you guys sure know how to make a feller feel lucky!  We have non-e fuel at the pump of 3 out of every 5 stations within 15 miles I bet.  Maybe more than that!

Used to be that way around here but now due to the government mandating ethanol in all gasoline there are none to be found.

That was the way around here for several years as well. Federal Highway funding was tied directly to the usage of alcoholic fuel but somehow there are states finding a way around it now

Nearest place to me is about 20 minutes each way, just over the NH line. That station occasionally runs out of non-ethanol but I almost never go that direction anyway so it's pretty much off my radar screen.

What I've been doing for a few years now is take the cans to work and when I head home take a side trip.

Today started off with cutting the bolt heads off the Throttle and Choke bolts to be welded to the levers. Then, it was wiring the headlights in up to the connector from the switch to the two headlights. After that it was painting the battery hold down strap then doing a color change on the Wheel Horse tire for the hat project. It’s been busy today.

In my area, and probably also the case in Kevin's area, it is advertised as being for marine use. Seems the closer you are to a lake the easier it is to find the stuff.

 

The station here in town that has it specifically touts it's suitability for marine use, and the local lake is electric only.

Well.... maybe a little.

 

I wasn't thinking about it and left the cover off when I moved it.

 

The gasket came out in two pieces the other day when I removed the cover to check the points.

 

And I do not have measurements.

I’m about 3 hours from @ebinmaine I live 10 minutes from a lake. I wouldn’t be surprised if we have the no ethanol marine  mix around here. I’ll have to check sometime.

I feel lucky. In Missouri it’s about $3.30 for 91 octane e free.
