well, I got in there looking around and I realized that the only one that needed to be replaced was the one behind the brake drum. It was absolutely filthy.

The pulley was slinging oil everywhere.

Covered with who knows how many years of dust and gear oil and dirt and ...

stuff.

So I replaced that one and cleaned up the brake and put everything back together.

Seems happy so far and the brake Works a little bit better.

Yes, those drum brakes really need to be latched tight to hold well.

 

But covered in oil really can't help.

So here's where we're at with the 1267 for the night. The oil is draining out. Air filter will need to be replaced. The PTO and lever assembly has been removed because I will have no implements to drive.

I pulled the gas tank out and all the wiring out and vacuumed out a rodents nest.

Ignition switch will be replaced with a 5 post later model.

Replaced the seat with the one from the mini farm tractor project.

My honey took a few minutes today to clean up the wheels that were on the farm tractor hand-built custom project. I had taken those off to swap the ags on to it so I could roll it around. I used my HF manual tire changer to remove the junk tires and then she cleaned them all up and sprayed the two outsides Navajo white.

These will have a set of 23 x 10.5 turfs with chains and be mounted on to the 1267.

Yes you need a saddle mount regulator.

No the SG reg will work just fine . I believe Richard @953 nut has a nifty wiring diagram for doing that conversion. My 1067 had this done by a PO years ago so I just left it as is when I restoed her and it works good.

BTW those original 70 amp switches are still available and fairly cheap if you want to stay original. Some pics of my conversion. Custom made battery cables courtesy of  @Achto

By the way Dan @Achto that Gen light on at the last show was due to a loose connection on the back SG post. Star washers weren't enough to keep it tight.

You are correct Paul ....for some reason there is no regulator on this tractor.

The starter generator on this tractor is a different, darker color. Perhaps wherever it came from there was a regulator mounted remotely and it was just never installed.

Not looking to stay original on this particular tractor and having that much amperage go through an ignition switch has always kind of bugged me.

 

I'm pretty sure I have at least one or two of those Regulators around from that big auction pile.

I'll take a look at those diagrams from @953 nut. I'm pretty sure I saved them in my email somewhere.

if you could do me and probably several others a huge tremendous and also large favor.

I was just thinking yesterday that one of the skills I need to pick up with working on these tractors and other things is to be able to build a battery cable. I don't know if I have the tools or whatever but I need to learn how to install the lug ends appropriately.

I've learned how to do the ignition wires thanks to @squonk 

And I've figured out how to make a nice watertight harness with a good quality crimper that I picked up because of somebody on this website. I forget who. My apologies to whoever that was.

 

 

Next skill to learn... Great battery cables.

 

How's about a short tutorial and what kind of crimper do I need?

Now Jim @WHX20 , employee theft is not nice.   Having permission to use a nice Panduit cordless crimper with 6tons of pressure is quite nice though.  The cable ends are fairly cheap, the tool to crimp them is not so cheap.

when I went out to North Dakota with my honey a couple years ago we saw some of his "medicinal sticks". I'm not really into those things in general but I do appreciate them as machines. They were very impressive. Handmade stuff.
