Cleaning up the mounting area so i can start to mock up the predator 212 swap on the 62', after thats squared away the tractor will be further disassembled and sanded down to prep for a last minute paintjob before it gets too cold. Picking up a factory hood for it on Sunday. Hoping to start the predator for the first time tomorrow.

Did  some fine tuning on the sweet 16 today. All the adjustments needed to make it all come back together.!

Spent some time with my angle grinder removing the old tow behind hitch on my de-thatcher so I can start its conversion into a front mount de-thatcher. 

 

You can see the start of the caster frames for the gage wheels behind the drill on the bench as well.  Will need to pick up some 3/4" round in order to proceed to the next step.

  I finally got my welder working so I could repair the front mounting plate for the seat pan. This part fastens to the transmission tunnel and on the three tractors I have that have the under seat fuel tank, the holes on the tunnel crack or break out. I used some bed frame angle in that the stuff is thicker than the tractor steel and is very tough. Still not satisfied, i took some furniture steel from a recliner and am in the process of mounting that to the rear seat pan/ fuel tank frame. i missed the alignment of the seat holes, got frustrated and quit for the day because now i have to grind off a weld.

  I will show the procedure on a separate repair thread because it is such a problem on the later machines with the thinner steel. That bed frame steel does not like cheap drill bits, and i finally got it drilled by sharpening some smaller bits and using a step drill to finish.

  I also had a 12 horsepower kohler cast iron that became very hard to start . i pulled the head and there was some coked deposits around the valves that had broken free. Methinks that some of that material caused the valves not to seal.I think that from now on, when I but a horse, it will be automatic proceedure to pull the head and check for valve adjustment and sealing and general condition.. Of my three last purchases that run, one of the c-145s has a .015 oversize piston that is not even broken in, and the other two need rebores at some point.

  I"ll be quiet now. That a lot of detail for just one day

BEHIND THE DASH... When I purchased this 1967 WH 1277 it had sat for several years. I cleaned out the mice nest behind gas tank and changed the ignition. After some other minor repairs I got it started. Now I wanted to drive it. Unfortunately, every time I disengaged brake to move forward it stalled. Throttle was rusted in place. So I’m replacing throttle, cig lighter, some type of red light and accessory switch. The red light rusted on for life I think,

That red light is a very particular piece. 

It's the generator charge lamp. 

 

Needs to be the right type or it works in reverse if at all. 

I can get you the part number or others here have it too.

The light is a Generator Indicator light and will go out if the generator is working. The replacement light is Cole-Hersee  PL 20 RC.

No pics today, rear fenders are primed and painted for the 62. Need to see how i like the color,  sent the gf to gather supplies and she got rustloeum gloss cherry red instead of the krylon cherry red i asked for. Oh well she tried. Not going to be a show piece either way. Just want it all 1 color and halfway decent looking. Got steel stock to fab up a mounting plate for the 212 predator. Excited to have it mounted and driving by next weekend i hope

Ran a little more than a tank of gas through the 14-8 no name today mulching leafs. All 8 speeds got a good workout.

 

Most of the maple trees are bare, but most of the oak trees still have leafs.  I think about 2/3 of the leafs are still in the oak trees.  I think I'be mulched as many leafs as the lawn can take.  Probably have to burn the rest of the leafs.

The light you ordered is most likely an indicator light of some sort.

The Raider 10 needed a new positive battery cable today after the old one fell off. PO had a bad connection and burned most of the terminal away. I had it sandwiched with some oversized washers on the battery end. When it fell off after starting, I figured it was time to fix it right. Unfortunately, I needed to take the fuel tank off to get to the ignition.

 

While waiting for the spilled gas to dry, I decided to do a little bit of cleaning and waxing. I think it was @AMC RULES that said they used Johnson's paste wax to make their old machines look good. I had a can around and got to work. Also grabbed my 303 aerospace protectant. 

 

Got the hood, fenders, seat, steering wheel, gas tank, engine tins, and air cleaner looking pretty decent. If I need to burn some more time I'll continue.

 

Oh, and I unclogged the breather in my gas cap. I was thinking it might have been part of my problems getting this horse to run right, but it wasn't. Might try installing my other carb to see if it works better.

Looks like that rubber fuel line has some age to it. 

IF you (or a PO) use ethanol and if it's more than ONE year old you'll need to replace that line. 

 

While switching to a different carb is of course a great time to do so.

I actually use ethanol fuel in the tractor because the good stuff is so darn expensive. I guess i'll change the lines next year as part of maintenance, but these lines are barely 3 months old. 

 

It's been super dry around here so all my equipment looks old and not maintained from the dust.

Definitely understandable. Fine dust settles on everything really well.

 

I haven't messed with the carburetor on a Tecumseh engine but I understand that some of the Kohler carbs can be adapted on and it's been known to make a good difference in running quality.
