Just an update on my experiences with the OTR AGs, I was out this evening starting to repair the lawn and try to push some of the gravel and sod back to where it belongs, so right before putting the :wh: back in the barn there's still snow on the hill in the back yard, so with Kevin @pullstart getting hung in the slush I figured I should see how the ole 520 would go up the hill in 2-3" wet/slush like snow on still nearly frozen ground... Fluid filled and around 70# of iron wheel weights, NO chains needed unlike turf tread ,enjoy.

Cool Jeff!  Our snow pack diminished tenfold today!  I’d love to try the 26x12-12’s in a similar situation but we have no more 10-ish” deep spots in just a day!

Its all gone here but that knoll and only 2-3" deep, always the last to melt.

First of all, it's early March, so what is that greenish stuff?

I've been warming up a bit to ags on the front, hence my new ones lying on the floor in my shop, I suppose waiting on some rims and for me to decide which way to turn them when mounted.  Driving through snow is VERY different than trying to push back the snow banks and I did some more of that today with my #40 rollers and I'm pretty darned sure that they will so outperform ags.  I think I'll mount them on something mostly for looks.  Backwards does sort of mess with the looks...

This really wasn't about how it was steering, it was about the rear drive tires and forward momentum/traction up a fairly steep hill in a few inches of slushy/snow on slick grass/frozen sod, and not "speeding" to keep going, if you noticed I stopped a few times and started up again without "hanging" up, pretty sure "roller" chain ain't going to help in this situation but maybe some "diamond net link" tire chains would.

Sorry, didn't watch the video...

But I did look hard at everything else, I hope.  

And no, roller chain would have done you no good AND obviously your ags did what they were to do, AND I am warming up to diamond net links, especially since all the skidders up here use them.  And perhaps the phrase "up here" comes in now.  From Dec to mid April I deal with a slick driveway, sometimes ice but if all goes well mostly just thin packed snow most of the time unless I get lucky and the sun burns it off, not enough material for ags to get a grip so traction has to happen in about a 1/4 or less.  Ags and R4s just don't get the job done in my snow dusted frozen hard driveway!  Oh I can break trail through the woods with my compact and R4s but once that is packed down the R4s suck again.  Got to have some metal somewhere then too.  I've got rear and front ags now and I expect I'll know more next year but the reason I have the rear ags is because an owner said they sucked for him and he went with turfs and chains.  Getting around and maintaining a drive for 5 months of winter have subtle differences.

I had conventional (Deestone) style AGs at the beginning of this thread I started, in winter here with them fluid filled and same 70# of iron ,they SUCKED in snow here sod or asphalt with out chains and the front turfs slid quite a bit even in the summer grass on my hills, I am not one for switching tractor tires for different seasons, so after going OTR R1 on the rears I figured since they had the factory correct size for the 520 i would give then a go on the front, and again I want to reiterate from my sole experiences here with rolling grassy hills, asphalt driveway and red clay garnden soil these are my 4 season don't slide around, don't get stuck, don't need chains tire for me, also I will say that being hydro has its advantages too, never the wrong gear and the ability to just ease into moving or out all digging may actually help my in my experiences, I also have 2 SCUTs with R4s the aftermarket ones on the Kioti are much better than the factory Carlisle on the eMax without the front axle engaged its basically worthless in wet grass or snow, so get you there and do keep the Kioti chained up in WV for winter.

Slow sometimes but let me see if I'm getting closer.  The key point here is that the OTR R1s are superior to other ags?  That would be unexpected but awesome!  Still don't think it would solve my winter driveway issues but perhaps or another dirt tractor or check my trail cams.

 Just before our last storm I helped my neighbor put roller chain on his 1075 ..original tires. We got it on and he cleared his whole driveway no problems are you still having issues keeping yours on???  Chain worked out to 39 and 3/8"

Yes (for the price paid more than Deestone or that similar style but cheaper than Carlisle TruPower) way better, but let me clarify, than the conventional "Deestone" style straight lugs that also tend to "V" up in the centers instead of laying flat, another thing I noticed is the sidewalls are much more flexible even in cold weather and fluid filled to flex over uneven surfaces or obstacles, now I have never owned Carlisle TruPower or Firestone 23°  so I can't comment/compare to those,  you really need to study the tread geomtry/patterns of those and other brands then you may finally see what I have been "preaching" on. Last pics clean tires/tractor Carlisle TruPower then dirty/muddy my OTRs (and if you look closer at this pic you will see the R4s on the eMax) then the "Deestone" on my now gone 315-8.

40 PSI and ROCK solid.  New ags standing by in case the old dry rotted ones blow but I'll transfer the rollers.  I'm going to order a chain tightener too.  Might gain me a link or so.

I have a mounted set of Carlisle TruPowers waiting for a ride so I'll have a better idea this spring.  Nothing will beat a good set of chains up here for winter but I'm going to setup a another tractor soon with ags front and rear.  Funny, I could have bought OTR tires wholesale at my last job... Still sort of pricey though.

True, but for what I have it is evident that the 12” wide tires will not fare well in snow, regardless.  Sand?  They eat and eat!

I agree R4s are worthless in slickness (mud/snow/grass) without some form of help, weight, chains and 4x4.

      Now that we are finding more uses for the 1990 520H with a KwikWay loader I am experiencing some power loss in the hydro after about a half hour to 45 minutes??????

      Selling my trusty WH520H.  ~880 hours (currently used for moving snow when needed so hours may rise) very solid machine, strong and hardworking.  20HP Onan, hydro transmission and hydraulic lift.  Has Matt's foot-pedal conversion for forward/reverse.  Included in the sale is a tall-chute snow blower and 60" mowing deck.  The blower is in excellent condition and is on the tractor currently.  The mowing deck has been a workhorse over the years.  No holes but could use some TLC, probably needs new spindles at some point and could use a couple spots touched up with welder also does NOT have any pulley covers/protectors (see photo).  Tractor has been an incredible tool, very solid and dependable and I'm certainly going to miss her when she's gone.   
       
      Recent maintenance: replaced the plugs this summer, fluids as needed (hydro has about 100 hours on fluid/filter; oil was done in the spring and has about 25 hours on it).  Battery is about 3 years old as are the tires, Terra Trac tires on the rear and turfs on the front.  The seat (with arm rests) isn't in great shape.  I've got a cover for the seat, never used.  It's never really bothered me but new seat cover is included in sale as are 4 hub caps, chains for the rear tires, and some misc spare parts (see photos).  
       
      I've owed this machine about 8 year and put ~350 hours on her.  She's not a show piece but could be restored.  Sheet metal is generally in shape, no rust however the hood does have a couple dings in it.  
       
      I'm only selling because I'm trying to help my son get a small lawn care business started and looking to move to a zero-turn.  The 60" deck is too large for our trailer, the mowing deck lacks pulley safety shields, and we'd like something that mows faster.  My only complaint with this machine is the top-speed (which isn't great when comparing to today's machines) otherwise she's a beast.  They don't make them like this anymore.
