Tecumseh ID Help

Recommended Posts

Hey,

Picked up 2 Lawn Rangers....106 and 157. The 106 came with the black engine which I know isn't correct and the 157 came with red engine.

Anyone know how to ID these. Factory stickers but no mdl or s/n........maybe a block stamping????

Pics attached......

Thx

l157 should be H60-75117F  Not sure about he two threaded holes above the recoil

Should be a data plate on the front of the shroud

picture is from the original engine on my L107 Decal painted over

Black one is newer as there is no Lawson Power products on the decal.  I would guess late 80s???

Thanks!

There are 4 other holes around the recoil just like the 2 above. They appear to be factory but who knows.......

The two holes above the recoil usually are the front gas tank mounting holes from a Troy-Built Tiller  which used an HH60 cast iron block tecumseh (for the 6hp version)..   I have disassembled  many of them.   Just FYI...due to the angle that these engines are mounted to the tiller, the oil dip stick were marked slightly higher due to those engines (on the tillers) ran with a slightly different oil level.

Thanks for the Troy-Bilt info.....I'm sure that's it. The red engine has a 7 H.P. sticker on it so could it still be an HH-60?

Yes , it  could be a 7 HP....but I know 6 HP  was very commonly used.   Did you find the any model # on the shroud.    Usually a plate was riveted on the shroud like Pfrederi showed.   sometimes a decal was used (which could be gone or painted over)....and I've seen on some with the engine model stamped on the top of the flywheel shroud , next to the cylinder head.

If the block is cast iron it is an HH series (non magnetic non rusty = H series)

Bore for a 60 series is 2.625

Bore for a 70                2.75

So.... I just got home with this. I been wanting to fix one up for my 9 yr old nephew. I need to do it in a hurry as I will be going in hospitol soon for my 3rd battle with cancer. You know the story. Was told it ran about a month or so ago. Not running now. I just got home with it so I haven't checked it out yet. Have never owned a Lawn Ranger before, and know nothing about them. Maybe you guys can tell me what I have here and any advice would be helpful as well. Seems to be complete with the exception of the seat. Going to need to pick one up somewhere.

I have what I believe is a 1964 Lawn Ranger.
I'm wondering how rare they are and wondering what it is worth in the original condition it is in now.
May possibly restore it when I catch up on all my other projects.
      Thank you!
