slim67 2,809 #1 Posted September 18, 2016 I am new here and have a build thread started but want to say I am liking this forum. I'm at the tip of the iceberg as far as how much I have been looking around. Lots of nice people and tractors. Lots of great info and resources to. Have a good Sunday everyone.

slim67 2,809 #5 Posted September 19, 2016 Thanks fellas, this tractor is therapy for me. I have a 265-6 for chores around the yard, my sister has a gt 1600 workhorse with opposed twin and my dad has two sears( st16 and gt18) and an Ariens S12. I help keep them all running but never fully restored one until now.

Perhaps you could share some of your experiences and thought on the 265 and the others?
slim67 2,809 #7 Posted September 19, 2016 well the 265-6 i have is in my opinion a decent tractor. mine is a 97 model year . I wasn't looking for one but found this one in a guys front yard. I did some work on a 264h and at the time thought it was a nice machine. The owner spent a lot on it when he bought brand new. Unfortunately the electric clutch was wasted and he didnt want to spend the money for a replacement.I guess they werent as watered down as lot of others have been. As far as Sears tractors. the suburbans/st/gt series were workhorses. I grew up with a ss-12 that we plowed the garden with, snowplowing, yard work.It had 210 lbs on the rear wheels and chains. It would brake the hitch pin if you hooked on a tree root and keep going. In a nutshell, i love the Sears line. The Ariens s-12 is my dads and it has a snowblower. The snowblower is a Gravely piece. Ariens bought Gravely at some point. That tractor is a hydrostatic like your 264. For shits and giggles, we had a tug o war between my 265 and dads s-12. Neither had wheel weights and my dad and i are both the same weight. Needless to say, he pulled me all over the place. The s-12 is a tank. You have a couple that i like in your sig. the jim dandy and the power king. Its too bad we will never see tractors like these produced ever again. Thank God for tractor shows! Thanks for asking!
DennisThornton 4,771 #8 Posted September 21, 2016 Obviously we have similar thoughts when it comes to GTs! I love most of what I have but long for a Simplicity or it's sisters, Case, Gravely and an Ariens. I will snag any that come close enough if they are crazy bargains but I want to concentrate on the WHs first, Suburbans second and the rest are fair game. Thanks for sharing! You have a nice fleet going as it is. It seems like these days either you spend a little or a fortune to buy a tractor . 1500 for a lowes special or 10,000 at your local John Deere dealer. What happened to the garden tractors of yesteryear? My local toro guy used to sell Wheelhorse and had one floor model that I think he had for 3,000 . After that one sold he would be selling no more of that model. People want cheap not quality. Now he only sells toro zero turns.
