Hood Anti-Squeak 300 Series Tractors

Out poking around and looking at my Horse, and one of the items I would like to address is the anti-squeak edging that goes along the top edge of the dash where the hood meets. I am sure Wheel Horse used some type of rubber edging, but mine has long since deteriorated, and the P.O. slit a section of vacuum tubing to replace it. That tubing has now about split away, and I am going to have to replace it with something.

 

What do you folks use?

I was able to find sum rubber that slips over the sharp edges of metal I put a piece up were the hood meets the dash and was able to put two pieces were the hood meets the frame by the hinge it really tightened everything up. No more noise from the hood. I need to renew my supporter status so I can post pics

If you don't care about originality, places like auto zone sell door edge molding in small sections. They even have it in chrome!

I use stick on Velcro. cut to size.

Do you use both sides of the Velcro...ie: hook on one surface and loop on the other?

I can see where this would keep it from rattling and you wouldn't even need the latch!

Velco works great, use the soft side, not the hooks. It's cheap too.

Thanks all for the comments. Gives me some options to chew on. 

 

Will take a trip to the local NAPA jobber and see what he has in door edging. Would like something pretty pliable. While I think the velcro would work well enough, the rubber hose has been about perfect. It is water-proof, soft, workable, and conforms well to irregularities. Most of all, it don't rattle. The only issue with hose, is that it can be a bit of a pain to slit.

And when you give the hood a tremendous yank to get it open all your neighbors will think you bent over and split your pants again.......

I use the old edging from seats. The beaded stuff that holds the vinyl to the seat pan. I scrapped 2 or 3 seats and kept the edging.

Been doing the same, slit gas line tubing for years. Works well!

I save pieces of the old binding that went around the  metal seat pans with the plastic foam seats.     Works very well  as a hood to dash cushion!

KC9KAS  I use the side is on smoother side not prickly side. just cut and paste .

If you have a large hardware store close they may have vinyl edge trim, comes in different sizes. Can't find it in the box stores, a good hardware should have it and sell it by the foot. You cut it to the length you need, slid it on bend it to the shape you need and crimp it works great and looks great. I've it on 3 of my WHs, my simplicity, and a JD. Look up vinyl edge trim, or taco vinyl edge trim.

This is what I've found to work very well also.  Here is a pic one of my tractors that PO had installed. And a pic of a strip of seat edge trim that I saved from an old seat.

 

I honestly don't remember what the original stuff that was on it looks like.  You can see where the original was in my pic. 

When I was a kid, I remember my dad used to replace it with self adhesive foam weatherstrip occasionally.  I've tried that and foam camper shell tape too.  Doesn't last.  

Maybe someone has a pic of the original stuff.  I'm just curious what it looked like.
