boovuc 1,090 #1 Posted June 16, 2016 One of these lifetimes, I'm going to buy a house and build a deck then stay in it long enough to replace my own work, This has to be the fourth deck I have had to gut and redo in my 59+ years on earth. Anyway, here is the 520 Loader Tractor at work for a change. I cross-stacked the planks and put as many small boards in the bucket then stacked on the ones sticking out and tilted the bucket back as far as it would go. Made around five trips plus used it to unseat a pier they decided to concrete in rather than sit or bolt on. I have no idea how much weight is on it. Most of the planks are 10 to 12 footers We had no snow here over the winter so the loader hasn't had much work since last summer and early fall. It is sporting the Fourth of July flags early. PS...Yes I still have logs to cut and split and fungus removal on the shed roof to complete! :< ) That red birch log weighs a ton!

userj8670 68 #7 Posted June 16, 2016 What do you have for rims and tires on the back?! Looks mean! Need more pix of that and details please!
953 nut 60,128 #8 Posted June 16, 2016 You must have a real heavy weight box on the back, that much PT lumber would make mine pirouette on the front tires like a ballet dancer!
Retired Wrencher 5,792 #9 Posted June 16, 2016 boovuc Nice set up. Look like it Is real worker With the front loader real handy.
boovuc 1,090 #10 Posted June 16, 2016 The rears are BIG. They were bought from a fellow member just a half mile from my house. The rims were welded together like a puller would use. Off hand I can't remember the tire size but they really help stabilize the tractor and are better on the tranny and in steering verses dual setups. The weight box is solid concrete blocks with metal plate to fill the voids in the stock Ark Industries Loader Box. Guessing about 160 lbs +. I haven't been on much due to work constraints. It's been busy where I show up during the day. I am just plain whipped when I get home. I haven't done a Wheelhorse Tractor Project since the 417-8 restore and I haven't bought any since the 417 carcass I used for the rebuild so I've had generally nothing to contribute to the WH cause! :< ) I still get my trout fishing in though! Nothing but bad health would keep me from my streams around here!

You guys don't seem to worry about that too much tho?? No I don't worry, the 520's have 1in. spindle, and steer about as easy as any wheel horse ever built, till PS. and I always run 35lbs of air in the front tires and this also helps it steer. I built this loader so that when I start to raise it up it throws the wt. to the rear, I mean the loader is real close to the grill if the tractor, thus as it climbs up it also head to the rear of the tractor. Mine will easy pick up 600lbs. If you would like I can send pics or repost then of the building of it.
boovuc 1,090 #19 Posted June 19, 2016 Mr Ness! That is a nice compact build. I love the looks of that creation better than my ARK loader on mine! Wanna swap? :< ) I'll have to check out your build posts! PS..The 520's were the only modern WH/Toro tractors to handle loaders. 1" spindles standard. Gear reduction steering standard. Weight boxes resting on the loader frames. Short of loaders built on the Xi series tractors with or without power steering, I can move my steering wheel without a suicide knob standing still. (without anything in the bucket). The Eaton rears do well with the load on them. I have had the loader on this 520 for four years now and with and without use, I have no axle leaks with that weight bucket on it to date. Not even a hint of oil coming through them. I do change the hydo oil/filter more often as I believe it is susceptible to higher temps than what mowing would do.
