doc724 925 #2 Posted April 8, 2016 Some did, some did not. My 416H has the 8 inch wheels
Retired Sparky 526 #3 Posted April 8, 2016 My 310 came with 6'' rims. I just changed them out to 8''. I like the look. Of course the new coat of paint helps also.
Pollack Pete 2,273 #4 Posted April 8, 2016 Both of my 416H's came with 8 in. front wheels.
pfrederi 18,429 #5 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) Does your 416 have the correct spindles for the 6"heels? They stick down below the axle further to make up for the smaller wheel. Edited April 8, 2016 by pfrederi
scotty 252 #6 Posted April 8, 2016 Ill have to take a look i thought only the 300 series had 6'' wheels.
slammer302 2,156 #7 Posted April 8, 2016 I believe the 6" wheels are for the 37" deck so if the 416-h came with the 37" deck then it would probably would of came with 6" wheels. But I did not think the 400 sieres machines came with that small of a deck.
shallowwatersailor 3,214 #8 Posted April 8, 2016 In 1990, the Onan-powered 416-H came with six-inch front rims. This was a transition year for Toro (for example, 520-H with swept front axle but no steering reduction) but went to eight-inch rims for 1991.
Phatboy 565 #9 Posted April 8, 2016 Most 400 series came with 8" but a few came with 6",,, like the opposite with 300 series most came with 6" and some came with 8" lol.. I guess it was whatever the wheel horse assembly guy had in front of him at that momment haha
TDF5G 2,072 #10 Posted April 8, 2016 (edited) I thought the 6" front wheel size was just a model year change. I mean they used 8" wheels until 19?? and switched to 6" then went back to 8" in 19??. I always figured it was a bean counter cost savings implementation. 6" wheels and tires must have cost less than 8". Then Toro went back to 8" due to some reason. Probably customer complaints or something? Kinda like the removal of the WH name and the plastic rear fenders. If it was a car the change would have been made for increased MPG or some other stupid government regulation for safety or economy. I'd bet that if Wheel Horse hadn't been sold, and it stayed Wheel Horse (no Toro) they woulda stayed with the 8" front wheels. As slammer said -- You need 6" front wheels to be able to use the 37" deck without restriction -- The bigger front wheel will hit the deck when making a right(?) turn -- Now that doesn't preclude putting smaller wheels on just because they wanted to....But there is a physical reason for needing them

scotty 252 #14 Posted April 8, 2016 Yeah i just wanted to make sure there were other tractors with 6s on them i got a new set of 6'' tires for it they should look nice.
c-series don 9,540 #15 Posted April 9, 2016 Please let me chime in here. Slammer and DCRAGE are correct about the 37" deck and the need for 6" wheels. I have a 416 that came with a 37" deck and when I bought it I wondered why the small wheels till I turned the wheel. Now for good news about 6" wheels. You can run a 60" deck with them. Yes it will rub when turning hard. You can turn about 95% without them rubbing, so I just make a little wider turn ! I've been running this set up for years now and it works great. I don't think I would want to cut tall grass with it but I mow frequently and that Onan never misses a beat. I will say I never paid much attention to fuel usage till I got this tractor, I mowed for 8 years commercially with a Work Horse GT-1800 (18 hp Briggs) and it uses WAY less fuel than the Onan.

Tankman 3,523 #19 Posted April 9, 2016 I don't remember 6" rims on any of the Horses I've owned. The 8" tires provide plenty enough "pleasure" mounting. Cleat looks great on his 416-8 but should wear his safety boots and a WH red shirt too!
