Paint color question

Recommended Posts

I have a 1998 and a 2002 Ford Ranger. The paint code for both is vermillion red. Paint code E4 for both trucks. The color looks different on both. why?

Could very well be. Stop in to a place that mixes auto paint and see if there is an alternate for that code. Companies changed things with their colors all the time but used the same code.

I had to repair a white Saturn once. I was working at Napa and decided to have a panel shot with a color formula camera to get it right. It came back as a Honda alternate white. That's how much the color changed from being outside.

Red seems to be very susceptible to fading. In the '70s I was working a construction job at a paper mill in Gorham NH and a few days after starting work it occurred to me that I had the only red vehicle in the parking lot. I was told that none of the dealers would sell a red vehicle because the chemicals in the air caused it to fade rapidly; no other color, just red.
