Aldon 4,828 #1 Posted March 9, 2016 The style wheel weights that mount from the inside require longer bolt with 9/16-18 fine thread to mount to rear of hub, pass through allowing lug nuts to fasten the wheels onto hub. A search of McMaster Carr and initial web search did not pay off but I am on business travel and would like to get something ordered and on the way. Any ideas? pacer 3,177 #2 Posted March 9, 2016 Yeah all thread bolts are kinda hard to find... Right off the bat I thought of McMaster - but you said they didnt have them. Another option is get a 3' stick of all-thread in 9/16 and cut to length and either using loctite or a nut on the back side. I had a piece of all thread in 9/16 and cut 3 pieces about 3" long , I screw them in a few threads and slip the rim over them and then run up 2 lug bolts, remove the 3 'studs' and install the rest of the lug nuts -- works great! 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

Aldon 4,828 #5 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) The GT14's use 9/16-18 thread. I just bought stainless bolts and lug nuts and confirmed they are correct. However I have since acquired the inner wheel weights. The original 4 inch Mounting bolts are not in great shape. Useable but I would very much prefer to replace. pacer 3,177 #6 Posted March 9, 2016 It didnt quite click when I read the 9/16 part that aldon obviously wasnt talking about the majority of our horses which use the 7/16 thread -- the big D's also use the 9/16 thread which I have 4 of those. I have a set of alignment 'studs' in both threads. I do have a 9/16x18 all thread and if memory serves I got it from McMaster. 1 Share this post Link to post Share on other sites

McMaster doesn't have all-thread in anything over 2" in that diameter and thread pitch in any grade of steel. It looks like the ones I pulled out were threaded only at the business end which allowed the lug nuts to grab 9onto and fasten the wheel weights on and keep the rims on the hub. But PO used grinder or something to take off the material that otherwise would have been impeded by the threaded hub, It is a work around but not one I would really want to put on a tractor I am spending so much effort to do well. ie the Resto-mod GT14. . If need be I'll forego the wheel weights but I think it would be an added benefit as it will have tiller and snow blade. Also hope to refresh these units. Another option would be to drill out the threads on a couple spare hubs for use with wheel weights. Plenty of 4 inch options if full thread is not necessary. ztnoo 2,300 #11 Posted March 9, 2016 (edited) Aldon, I looked at www.mscdirect.com and found a number of choices of 9/16-18 fine thread bolts. The longest all thread was only two inches, but they actually have the desired thread in bolts of various grades up to 8 inches long! I couldn't believe the length you could get in that thread. You didn't comment as to how long of bolts you might ideally need and if I understand what you want to do correctly, is to use a bolt of sufficient length to pass from the back side of the hub, through the hub, catching a lug nut, installing the wheel weight and going on through the thickness of the wheel weights and having enough "meat" left on the threading for at least a flat washer, maybe a lock washer and a nut. Am I visualizing that correctly? You would need eight bolts, if I've got that right. ??? These aren't particularly cheap to begin with, and most have minimums attached which could be problematic. Why couldn't you cut additional threads on bolts of sufficient length to do what you want to do??? Or have a machine shop or a maybe a retired machinist or someone who moonlights on the side to cut the threads to a length to do what you want to do? Granted a bolt of that diameter would be a time consuming thing and physically challenging to cut by hand individually with the correct die and die holder, but it could be done. Probably a lot more easily accomplished in a shop setting however. Just an idea. Sometimes if a guy throws enough mud against a wall, it will begin to stick! It would be interesting to know more about the UK source.......
