Valve spring compressor ?

Recommended Posts

Digger 66

Hey fellas , was wondering what you are all using for a valve spring compressor for your small engines ?

I'm looking for something that can be used on small engines as well as my DOHC Rotax . I'm in the process of tearing the heads apart & the one valve is very close to the casting making the C-Clamp style one I have unusable . I wish I had some better pics of what i'm getting at but there's more on that here >http://www.can-amtalk.com/forums/topic/72050-leakdown-results/

Money isn't an issue & want to get a good one that can be used on most engines .

Please post picks / brand-names or links & thank you very much for reading

Gene

That's similar to what I have ^

One of the intakes on each head is nestled into the casting far enough where it could be used if I could "window" out a socket to get the keepers back on .

Anyone have any experience with this type ?

Here's what I use, but like you say, not right for your application.

I have a spring loaded magnetic valve keeper holder thingy, :thingy: that will hold the keepers in place while you release the valve spring. I will look for it tomorrow and give you any information I can find. I have had it for over 40 years so not sure if it is made any more, probably on :techie-ebay:though.

I've used the big c clamp style on some cantankorus heads. Sometimes if you need to fab up some kind of extension for it, you will need another set of hands jut to get things lined up.

@Digger 66 I am afraid the one you had a link to will not fit into the small space on our small engines.

I took a couple of pictures of the tool, no name on it , but I know KD Tools made one like it. The jaws have magnets to hold the keepers and is spring loaded to hold them on the valve.

Also took a picture of a KD Tools spring compressor that I use on OHV engines.
