Hodge71 665 #1 Posted October 19, 2015 Has anyone ever taken the time and effort to adapt a Xi series deck onto a C-series? I have been thinking about throwing a 52" under the 416 I did for my Dad last year.I heard they have much more lift then our classic decks and theres a Toro mulcher adaptor to close of the discharge and back. True or no? Should I continue this or quit while Im ahead. I love a challenge hence why I was the first to put a 60" deck from a 520 under my 18 Auto.
mikekot3 93 #2 Posted October 19, 2015 There is an engineer on red square that told me that an XI deck would not fit a 416-8 tractor as the bracket layout is al different.
Hodge71 665 #3 Posted October 19, 2015 Thanks Mike. Im sure drilling some new holes would fix that whole issue. A 60" deck never resided under a D series until I did it too.... I love fixing things that aren't broken...My dad always said I was a noacher
doc724 925 #4 Posted October 19, 2015 Nothing is impossible with enough time and money. If you have the hanger assy for a C series and are receptive to changing the drive pulley it may work for you (with a few additional holes drilled as well). However, you do need that hanger assy as the xi mounting is completely different than a C series, and if you do not change the drive pulley (smaller diameter), the blade speed will be less. Hodge71 665 #5 Posted October 19, 2015 Now we're going in the right direction Doc!!! I knew about the carriage, which I have. The pulley I didn't know about though Sent from my iPhone using Tapatalk
gwest_ca-(File Mod) 11,483 #6 Posted October 19, 2015 The recycler kit for the 52" deck is model 79185.Garry
Wishin4a416 2,191 #7 Posted October 19, 2015 (edited) I think anything is doable Jeff with a little ingenuity. Those are really nice decks. Edited October 19, 2015 by Wishin4a416
JackC 617 #8 Posted October 19, 2015 "Nothing is impossible with enough time and money. " That about sums it up. Personally I would stick with a standard 48 inch deck and spend my time and money elsewhere. If you want to prove it can be done; Go for it.House rules are you will need to keep us informed with lots of pictures and a report on results and performance.
bds1984 1,499 #9 Posted October 19, 2015 I'm certain it could be done! Keep us posted! I've contemplated this mod quite a bit as I regularly see 52" decks around me for sale and I've got an itch to put a larger deck under my C165 now that I have a swept axle on her. This brings a very important question that popped into my head soon after I started contemplating this swap....... front axle interference when turning....Is the deck that much bigger that I need a swept axle? wh500special 2,269 #12 Posted October 20, 2015 You might recall that Eldon put a 52-incher on his custom 595-HD. He said it wasn't difficult and that the holes for the hangers were already there...but "easy" to Eldon doesn't necessarily mean "easy" on an absolute scale. Go for it. doc724 925 #13 Posted October 20, 2015 I have xi and C series decks here. Currently they are both off the tractors. Do you want me to take a pix of both and send it along so you can see side by side the differences? One is a 42 and the other is a 48.

Im sure its not that difficult once you get the 2 side by side.....The hardest part is figure out the right size pulley swap to keep blade tip speed up and help grass lift. doc724 925 #16 Posted October 20, 2015 Ok, here are two pixThe first one (with the green in the background) is the 48 inch xi deck. If you want to scale the picture, each course of clapboards is about 4 inches. Drive pulley O.D. is 6 3/4 inchThe second pix is the 42 inch classic deck. Studs are 16 inch c-c so you can scale accordingly, Drive pulley O.D. is 4 1/2Note, the rear wheels are fully extended (ie in the lowest mowing position) for the 42 inch deck, but not for the xi deck

Hodge71 665 #18 Posted October 20, 2015 Dennis its some sort of slang (possibly local) for somebody that doesn't leave well enough alone. I was always tearing crap apart growing up that there was nothing wrong with...until I took it apart that is...

bds1984 1,499 #20 Posted October 21, 2015 The xi deck looks very similar to the 270 deck I converted to fit my C165. I think it can be converted over fairly easy provided a donor deck is right beside it just like I did in my swap. However, I think the swept axle will need to be used with the 52'' deck as my 48'' is pretty close with the newer style deck wheels and much closer than my 312-8 with the old style 48'' deck.
