Stigian 1,234 #1 Posted October 7, 2008 I had a chance to fire up the new arc welder today, and see if i can Arc any better than my naff efforts many many years ago And much to my surprise i did a lot better than i thought i would, well on the thicker stuff Not bad.. Getting better.... And... not very good I guess the way to look at it is, the more i try the better i will get Have any of you fine Gents got any tips on how to Arc weld better? Mith 2 #2 Posted October 7, 2008 Ian, find yourself a real fat bit of plate, its easier to get the hang of the travel speed etc when you arent struggling not to burn through. Keep your eye on the shiny pool, try not to look at the rod. If you can weave the rod from side to side slightly you'll get a bit more heat in there = better weld. Try and keep the arc nice and short without sticking the rod. Seriously though, looks like you have got that bit pretty much down already. Hold the stinger with 2 hands if you want. I usually use my left hand as a steady rest if space allows. Its a practice thing, but you welds so far honestly dont look half bad. Seen much, much worse!
