Digger 66 3,477 #1 Posted May 17, 2014 Anyone know of a place to buy metric locknuts ? I've tried : Fastenal , Grainger , MSC , local hardware stores & they either , don't' have / cannot get them or I would have to buy a pack of +/- 25 . For an M18 that ='s around $60.00 & I only need two ! Looking for an "all-metal" ( no nylon ) aircraft type locknuts . Any help would be appreciated . KC9KAS 4,741 #7 Posted May 25, 2014 You say "all metal" (no nylon) nuts.....Are these the type that have a little indentation on the outside 2 or 3 places on the nuts? And these are called "aircraft" nuts? Just wanted to make sure so I can say I learned something today!
AMC RULES 36,961 #8 Posted May 25, 2014 Me too... wondering what makes them locking?

Yes And , yes They are for the torsion rod in the independant rear suspension of my Renegade , They fasten a splined through shaft to two "keys" that lock into each swing-arm & have a nasty habit of working loose . BRP uses Nylocs from the factory , but I figured I'd go one better . Thanks again for the link to a great site . Edited May 25, 2014 by Digger

C-101plowerpower 1,605 #11 Posted May 26, 2014 good thing you've found em, looks like a fine thread on that torsion bar, couldn't you just use loctite or something? i have the same problem finding nuts and bolts, only i cant find the imperial sizes Koen
Digger 66 3,477 #12 Posted May 26, 2014 (edited) good thing you've found em, looks like a fine thread on that torsion bar, couldn't you just use loctite or something? i have the same problem finding nuts and bolts, only i cant find the imperial sizes Koen I've tried the red & blue Loctite but they still loosen due to the torsional twisting of the shaft . Other option is a set of http://www.nord-lock.com/ but they are really expensive . Safety wire is another option. Edited May 26, 2014 by Digger
