kj4kicks 151 #1 Posted September 10, 2008 Day 1 of phase 2 started out cloudy, and quickly turned to heavy rain, and showers on and off for a few hours after that. Funny, about the time Dustin left, the rain stopped lol. By early afternoon, the sun was out, and getting very muggy. Framing began, and 2 walls are nearly ready to be lifted. Forecast is good for the next two days, so it's time to open up the end of the existing roof to add the 2' knee wall. Then the 2 new walls can be raised into place. kj4kicks 151 #13 Posted September 11, 2008 Hey E, I know you went to school for construction but don't those wall go vertical? Well, now that you mention it: Dustin, that's the sill plate for the south wall, just kinda laying there... The south wall is almost ready to go up, then the big back wall. Trusses are scheduled for delivery tomorrow. Yep, remembered the sill plate holes, and even the sill plate foam seal. Notice that Old Blue really is capable of hauling more than Horses ! DOC in Kentucky 178 #14 Posted September 11, 2008 Hey Eldon, Those look like 2x6 walls. Those babies get real heavy real fast especially 10 footers, even before the 4x8 sheating. linen beige 14 #18 Posted September 11, 2008 I feel better now. I thought I was the only one that forgot stuff like that! I didn't actually DO it, but was there when it happened. A buddy's garage/barn, and the rest of us just watched and waited 'til he figured it out. :USA:
kj4kicks 151 #19 Posted September 12, 2008 Running out of daylight here on day 3. Trusses arrived early this morning, and are now parked in the driveway. Got the south wall up, and the long west wall is ready to go up. Couldn't round up any volunteers this afternoon, so I started on the blue board. Hope to get all the walls up tomorrow morning, because they're calling for rain in the PM, and because I'm supposed to be at the store tomorrow lol. More later..... linen beige 14 #20 Posted September 12, 2008 Shame ya don't know someone with a front end loader to raise them walls up fer ya. :banghead:
kj4kicks 151 #21 Posted September 12, 2008 Shame ya don't know someone with a front end loader to raise them walls up fer ya. Funny you would mention that. Forecast is for rain and some wind to move in this afternoon and on through the weekend. I really wanted to get the walls up and braced before that happened. Of course, today nobody was available to help. "Fine" I thought, I can do this by myself..... The loader did have to bleed a little for the cause: Then the rain began (early) and I had to hurry a bit to get the second half up there and braced. Got it done, and put everything away, just as the rain stopped I feel better now knowing that everything is tied together. Next up is the 2' wall over the old garage, and we're ready for trusses! T-Mo-(Moderator) 4,345 #22 Posted September 12, 2008 Good progress for the day, considering the rain. Isn't that typical, it'll stop raining once you put things away. :banghead:

Nick 13 #24 Posted September 12, 2008 Eldon, Looks like the garage is really taking shape now. A separate work area and storage area like you will have sure would be nice. Forgot to add those are some nice loader action shots. :omg:
Rollerman 290 #25 Posted September 12, 2008 E looks like you had some good help today...though probably not much for talking & drinking tea? It looks like things are comeing along fast too! Any of the neighbors have garage envy yet?
