Oil Capacity Seems Off?

Recommended Posts

brandonozz

I just changed the oil on my C165 for the first time.  I added a little less than what the manual for the K341 calls for and stopped to let the oil settle and check the oil with the dipstick.  The oil is showing at least a 1/4" over the full mark???

Before draining I warmed the engine well and let the oil drain overnight.  The dipstick tube seems to be correct.  From what I've found the capacity is supposed to be 1.9 quarts and I only added about 1.6 to 1.7 quarts yet it is showing overfilled.  Did Kohler ever make a shallow pan for these engines that would require less oil capacity?

Thanks for your advice, Brandon

My method is add a quart, then top off until the oil level is correct on the stick.

However, I think the amount should be 1.5 qts.

Well Bob, based on the manual Garry provided it looks like your correct - 1.5 quarts.  I looked in themanuals but didn't see that chart and searched here for the (aparently incorrect) information at Kohler.

http://www.kohlerengines.com/onlinecatalog/pdf/tp_1346_c_all.pdf  There must have been different pans on some at least,

Thanks guys, I guess I get to get a little sloppy draining 1/4 quart as my drain pipe is straight down between the frame rails.

Bob I agree about adding less than you think it needs and then topping off as necessary ...... I thought I was!     :banghead:

Big pan blocks use more oil than small pans blocks, the 165 has the small pan.

Looking to find a new home for my 84 (I think) C-145. It has a dump trailer with the enclosure for leaves, the PTO impeller to get the leafs into the trailer, the hoses for deck-to-impeller, impeller-to-trailer.

I haven’t run it in over a year.
The battery and the cable to the battery probably need to be replaced.
Comes with a new head gasket still in the bag.
Seat is cracked but still comfortable.

Happy to answer questions or take other pictures.

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks
