Electric clutch WAS an option after 1973!! I found the proof!!

Well I've been doin lots of research on my C-160 that I bought but  haven't gotten to pick up yet as to why it had the electric clutch switch and wiring but a manual PTO. I never saw a post 1973 C-series with an electric clutch and apparently nobody on here has either...so anyway...... surfing the net turned up this service bulletin from South Bend. Now at least I know dealers did install them so I will be putting the electric clutch back on her once she gets home.

I posted it in the manuals section but thought I'd share here too so more people can learn from it

The '73 models were "no name" tractors, so it's technically not a C-160. The "c" series came out in 1974.

The models are very similar ('73 and'74) and shared many of the same parts.

Both are great tractors.

Paul,

I'm sorry for the confusion. I never said 1973 was a C-series. I said "POST" 73 which to me meant 1974 and up. I believe they were the same exact machines from 1973 until they went to the 81,101,121,141,161 numbering system. At that point they moved the fuel tank under the seat, moved the battery to where the fuel tank was made a few other changes. I have a very soft spot for 1973. It was the tractor I learned on, 12 Automatic. We  still have in 100% original condition it along with the original tiller, lawn vac, dump cart, 42" side discharge deck, lawn sweeper, 48" snow plow and aerator. All I was trying to confirm was that electric clutches were a dealer installed option even after 1973 which was the last year they came standard.

I've had 2 post 73 tractors with electric PTO's a C-160 hydro, and a C-120 hydro. don't remember the years of them but the C-160 had the fixed fender so 76 or 77 and I have a few dash panels with a spot on them marked elect. PTO and they are the plastic panels with the levers so they are 73 or newer.

That manual has been in the manuals section for a long time.  Thanks for the submission, but I have removed it since it's duplicate.

I have a 72 Raider 12 I just picked up with a elect. PTO, I think it was more of a luxury item, and went hand in hand with the hydro and hyd. lift, lights, and probably hub caps

Thats good info Kelly. I gotta talk to my Dad now though. His '73 12 auto never had a hydraulic lift or hubcaps. I wonder if he had the dealer put it on or it was like that off the dealer floor at Hazle Penn Oil and Brake. He bought the tractor used in the fall of 1973. It was used for the 1973 racing season at Pocono Raceway to pull the Indy Cars around the pits and at Evergreen Speedway here in St. Johns to pull wrecks when Spencers still owned it. It even had checkered flag decals on the hood over top of the original Wheel Horse ones that said Pocono Raceway. I wish he never would have taken those stickers off or at least had pics of it with them on. Kelly if you're parting that tractor I would love to buy the electric clutch if it works.

Yes the Raider is getting parted it works but need to pull it to check the bearings better, send me a PM, but I will probably not get to it this week as I'm getting ready for the MI WH show I run.

C - Series, Hood and Sheet Metal (square black insert) (also known as black hood models) for sale!

This sheet metal set, including C Series Hood, Dash piece, Seat Bracket, and Left & Right-Side Covers, and Left & Right Floorboards was sandblasted, epoxy primed, and painted the OEM Wheel Horse Red Paint.

The painted set is not perfect, a little metal pitting on one of the floorboards, a few little imperfections in the paint here and there as I'm a rookie painter, but this is a nice painted set of sheet metal to freshen up your C Series Wheel Horse!

Does anyone know where I could find a complete engine rebuild kit from for the k-19 ? I absolutely love my c-195 and have had it for years. But the motor let go last fall and I want to rebuild it or upgrade the motor, any suggestions?

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.
