New Tiller for C-121 Auto.. need info please

Recommended Posts

Hi,

I'm new here.  I own a 1979 C-121 Automatic.  I work a large vegetable garden and found a used Wheelhorse tiller for sale locally.  The gentleman I purchased it from assured me it would work on my tractor.  The tiller has no ID tag so I'm unsure of the model number.  It came with the mid-mount pulley system and belt.  He also gave me a weight that will connect to the front tach-o-matic hitch.

The tiller looks similar to the 36TL04 model that I saw in the manuals posted here.  It has a continuous hinge on the shield flap - not three pins like some I have seen.  My questions are:

1)  I'm missing the lever (rockshaft?) and other hardware that goes under the seat that the cable lift attaches to.  Anybody know where I can find

     these parts?

2)  I'm missing the cable lift, clevis, trunnion etc..  I see some similar looking parts are available from Toro but I'm not sure that they will fit my setup.

Any insight here on how to get the correct lift cable parts?

3)  I'm missing the heavy lift spring, bolt eye, bracket and nut that connects to the tiller hitch.  Again, I see some similar looking parts available from

Toro but not sure if will fit my tiller.

I really appreciate any help someone might be able to offer me.  If I need to post pictures to help someone better understand what I have please let me know.

Thanks,

John in Missouri

The model number for the 1979 36" tiller is 97-36TL01

Replaces RT-366, RT-367, 7-1211, 7-1251, 7-1252, 67-36TL01, 77-36TL01, 77-36TL02, 87-36TL01,

Replaced by 07-36TL01, 07-36TL02, 07-36TL03, 07-36TL04, 07-36TL05, 79370

The clevis hitch is 8-5514 but needs to be entered as 85514 at Toro

I just this year purchased all of those parts (new) from my local Wheel Horse dealer -- A few of them they didn't have in stock and were purchased from Toro -- So try the local dealers that used to be Wheel Horse -- I was suprised at what mine had in there storage areas -- (This purchase was NOT cheap, but I am pretty sure I have the correct stuff)

PS -- Where in MO are you located

Thank you guys for the information that you have provided so far.

Garry - thanks for the info.  It looks like some of the parts of the hitch assembly are not available anymore.  Also, how do I confirm this hitch will work with my tiller?

Dave, I live in unincorporated St. Charles County in the Defiance, MO area.  Please let me know what dealer you found some of your parts.  I'd be very willing to take a drive to obtain some of the needed items.

I got them in DeSoto (Mueller Motors) -- I think I got the last "rockshaft" that they had -- They were kinda suprised when they came up with it -- Anybody know who took all of the stock from Norm's Wheel Horse Barn (St. Charles) when they went out of business??

I have no hands-on experiance with these tillers. Have to rely on what I read. The clevis hitch is not used with the tiller but the lift hardware is. When a modification was required Wheel Horse put together "service assemblies" that contained the necessary parts to complete the conversion. These kits are no longer available and seldom did they list the part numbers of the contents of the package. I should have explained why I included the clevis hitch page. Here are some service bulletins on making the different tillers fit the different tractors and others. Hope I have not missed any.

John,

There are several threads on here on how to make your own cable and rockshaft.  There is also a thread where someone just mounted a pulley to route the cable over to run to their hitch or tiller.  I know there are some who feel they need the assist spring for lifting the tiller but I have never had it and have no problem lifting the tiller and I'm no 800 pound gorilla!

If you decide you need a rockshaft I may have what you need over here in Tulsa if you ever come this way.

Hello all. I am looking for suggestions on adapting the pto from my C series tractor to a harbor freight predator 420 13hp engine. I know the predator motors are a controversial topic however it is the route I have chosen for this particular machine. The intent was to mostly use it for plowing so no PTO required but it would be handy to have. Looking to hear from someone that has successfully done the swap that may offer any advice before I attempt to transfer it over. Just looking for any general pointers that will help me along the way to make it go as smoothly as possible.

1979 c-101 nice project tractor just needs a few odds and ends, steering wheel, coil, carburetor bowl, the wiring was redone by previous owner....all 4 tires are good and hold air it goes into all gears no problem, transmission fluid has been changed, 10hp Kohler, message me or call or txt with any questions, it does run and runs well,  it’s been kept inside since I’ve had it, I would also trade for a mid mount grader blade thanks
