Getting Ready For Mowing Season

Hey there, finally the south England (UK ) has been blessed with some nice warmer weather, grounds all dried out and ready for mowing, so today I got the old cutting deck out of the back of the shed and had my first cut, had a few problems putting the deck back on but got there in the end. And didn't think the blades would cut much as they where blunt but surprisingly they left the garden with a nice bright green spongy grass.

Nice Raider Charlie...yep spring is in the air.  We had a bunch of rain last night, and the grass is 3 shades greener today.

Very nice.  I picked-up a 36 inch RD deck for my 314-8 yesterday.  I've had a couple of these before, but sold them with other tractors.  IMHO, they give the best cut of any of the Wheelhorse decks I have used.  Reason I got another 36 inch RD deck was to have a tractor that would load-up in my little Nissan truck with the deck fitting between the wheel wells.  Also, allow me to move the 314-8 into the basement door with a deck in place - vs a 42 inch or larger deck.

Yes, a nice recliner I've got fitted there lol, and I don't put the beer down, don't need a holder I got hands, good job these things are easy enough to steer with just one hand , and leeave96 I got a new shed/store for my raider 10 over the winter, put the deck back on it earlier today and guess what..... It doesn't fit through the door only by a tad, the wheels of the deck come out an inch too much more work for me tomorrow, lol

Glad you finally got some dry weather Charlie. Thank goodness its April. I was getting sick and tired of Winter, although I know my Winters are much milder than most of the Red Square members. I really enjoy your stories and your pics Charlie. Please keep them coming this way.

We are almost two weeks off of May and the trees still have no folage & the grass isnt growing yet here in the South West , spring is really dragging its heels & i am fed up now with the cold days.

Thank you, I shall keep more coming, and Neil.. You know the battery tray, it has that little bar that bolts across the open end to keep the battery in....well the 'car' battery I've got on there is an inch too long so we can't get the bar to bolt back on, so unfortunaly we need the bundgey there to stop the battery from falling out. Now there is two ways around this, 1) get a right fitting battery. 2) weld a longer bolt thread to the original so the bar can bolt down,

I have 3 horses with cutter decks, but have never mown with them. 

 

I have used my trusty Dixon for 18 years until last year this happened  

 

 

 

I think one of the horses will be put to use until I find the motivation to repair the damage!

that was self destruct at 4000rpm!   Deck rot and a lot of tension it just gave up, I really need to see if it is salvageable. Getting any Dixon spares in the UK is pretty well impossible. When I worked in the US I could cheat and brings spares back  A cutter deck would be pushing it

HAHA HAHA, yep that would be hard to explain to one of the TSA workers!
