Road Trip Suggestions for PA?

Recommended Posts

mowerman1193

Wife and I are taking a road trip and heading to Atlantic City NJ. for our 19th wedding anniversary. Planning to go from home ( Michigan ) to Hershey Pa the first day ( unless someone changes my mind LOL ) . Then stay a day or two there and then head out to Pocono Mountains for a couple days and on into Atlantic City.

Since the big show is in PA and we have several members that go to the show and also live in PA I am wondering if anyone has any suggestions of places to go things to see places to eat etc. Neither of us have been to PA. so we are just looking for some ideas..Really short notice since we are leaving tomorrow LOL

We don't have any set in stone plan other than to have a good time considering this is our first trip together alone...Heck even our honeymoon was a group trip with family..Being we have never been that long together by ourselves we may come home devorced Hahahaha...we joked with the kids about that...

Anyway any suggestions is greatly appreciated..

Kevin

Well I know where I like to stop but if you are not into trains at all probably a little boring,

Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton Pa. http://www.nps.gov/stea/index.htm

and of coarse

Horseshoe Curve near Altoona, Pa. http://www.railroadcity.com/ http://www.visitpa.com/railroad-horseshoe-curve-national-historic-landmark

and if not into trains take a trip through Lancaster County more Amish tourist traps then you can shake a stick at

Since you are in Hersey you can go to the AACA auto musuem which is right up the road. Also the PA Rein Faire is also going on too. That is a good time.

Went to Hershey Park for the first time this summer. To me it was a big disappointment. They charge for every little thing. Not worth the hype. I'll second the AACA museum of you are heading through Hershey.

Forest Road

Roadside America on I78 in Shartlesville. It's a huge indoor model train display. It would help if youre a train nut.

Thanks for all the ideas, I think the PA Rein Faire sounds like it would be interesting..

I have heard about the Hershey Park being pricey..

I think the train and the auto museum sound fun but, I think the wife would not be so enthused about it too much..

Thanks again,

Kevin

Check out Gettysburg if you get close to there. Do the drive yourself tour of the battlefields...very scenic...and it is free. You could spend 3 weeks there and not see everything. :)

AMC RULES

Though not in Pa, check out the "points of interest" in this link. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Brigantine,_New_Jersey

You're going to be there anyway, so if you're into nature...the http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Edwin_B._Forsythe_National_Wildlife_Refuge

is not to be missed.

If you are going to hersey than you will not be far from strasburg. They have railroad attractions like a museum and you can take rides in there diffrent train passanger cars but it is not free. If you would like to go to a rodeo than there is one every saturday night from may to the end of september at cowtown nj starts at 7:30 pm it is on route 40 pilesgrove nj.

Thanks to all who replied, We ended up going to the Rein Fair, That was a great time, but we did get rained out later in the afternoon and left..I would like to go to that again when I could stay longer..but we wanted to get over the the Atlantic City as we had pre-paid for a hotel package there that had no refunds..Unfortunately I discovered in Hershey PA that my intake manifold gasket was leaking coolant..very slow leak...but we wanted to make sure we got to our hotel..I ended up not having it fixed and actually drove home from AC and never had to ad any fluid..just was very small wet area near the cyl. head..I at first thought the head gasket but then seen a small wet trail from the intake down to the botton of the head.. Anyway now I made it home and can fix the problem myself..Had it not been for that we would have stayed in PA yet another day..

Thanks again for all the suggestions..Wish I would have had more time to get more of the input from you all as there are several things you all posted that sound interesting to do..
