What Are You Listening To?

Recommended Posts

tunahead72

Just curious, did anybody here have any idea who R.L. Burnside was in 1978?  I know I didn't, and to me, it just shows how little mainstream radio does to expose us all to new musicians.  It's why I almost never listen to radio any more, it's just not what it used to be.  Thank goodness for platforms like YouTube and the people who put up videos like this.  I also give a lot of credit to my kids and some of their friends for exposing me to people I might not have encountered otherwise; they know what kind of stuff I like to listen to and recommend accordingly, and I try to reciprocate when I can.

This guy came up on one of my recent YT visits, he's probably worth listening to further...

Not until @TJ just posted it. But there's millions of artists out there and back in the day and there wasn't anyway for most to get recognized except for the radio. Now, with the internet many more can get exposed.

Never heard of this guy either but the youtube feed just keeps on feeding incredible talent  !!!

There's no doubt Blues paved the way for rock n roll

I’m sure I’ve posted Dallas Smith before… he’s a rock steady dude.  He was (or still might be?) the lead man for The Fallout (Wasting My Time) in the 90’s.  I was a big fan of the band then.  I really enjoy his solo stuff too.

This is a teenage dream dating cruising kissing song, but it relates to so many things.  You don’t really have to be running an engine to be “wastin’ gas” but I feel like I’ve done both lately.  Driving Uncle Larry around in is Jeep, wrenching with my 16 year old daughter.  Spending time, building relationships, making memories.  Wastin’ Gas.

Great stuff. Reminders of high school and some of my early days of playing guitar. I used to have the guitar chord song book - don't seem to have it in my collection anymore, but who uses books these days? :banana-guitar:

I learned something new tonight, at least if Wikipedia can be believed....  I always thought "Carry On" had one of the coolest bass lines I'd ever heard, and in my quest to find out who played it (it was apparently Stephen Stills), I learned that this song is actually based on a tune called "Questions" that Stills wrote and played with Buffalo Springfield:

Posted (edited)

They had a recent article about an 8 yr old singing the national anthem at a NBA game but it wasn't near as good as this one.

Posted this before but just watched it again and it's pretty amazing for someone that age. Worth a listen as she gives it her all. Impressive
