:thumbs2: Time for the proud Papa to boast a bit-my son is the chief design engineer at Rolls-Royce Indianapolis. He headed the design team and was responsible for the development of the clutch assembly that engages and disengages the Lift Fan (the means by which the plane makes thrust downward for vertical takeoff and landing) from the main engine. It used to be the "Joint Strike Fighter" now its the F-35-they are starting the 6 month sea trials for the Navy variant to replace the Harrier. My son sent me this video-enjoy-Thanks-Al

Even after 33 years in the Air Force and seeing some amazing things, it still is awesome to see something like that! :thumbs2:

Fabulous aircraft. Looked like there was very little forward motion of ship. Wonder how much more difficult landings would be with the the Hornet at full speed for conventional aircraft.
