I am looking at a 1969 Charger 12 and would like everyone's opinion.

That certainly looks solid. Battery and seat are no cause for concern other than a few bucks. If operates as good as it looks it's a decent deal.........but he did say OBO.

Aren't Wheel Horses pretty darn rare out there?

Welcome!

"Comes with 2 rear tires and chains" .... What was the implement the PO was using that required chains?? I ask, as both a tiller and a plow put a lot of stress on the "F" plate - look underneath where the Unidrive bolts onto the vertical wraparound plate for cracks at the four mounting holes. VERY common, fixable but time consuming.

I hope it does not look like this one - an 854 that plowed all its long life....

William: 1st. :WRS: when it comes to the West Coast is there a lot of dealerships around? Second, do you know of the dealerships that are or  were in business or is there still dealerships out there? If not, you  can always go to many of our parts vendors that are listed here. 2nd you can always rely on the help of members here to help you out. Even an old fart like me still needs help from time to time. I hope you can pick that tractor up and be happy with it. Best of luck and most of all enjoy the ride if you buy it.

It looks pretty clean. If it runs and mows it would sell for $4-500 in my area, but location and supply means a lot.    The Sundstrand hydro transmissions can be a problem if not maintained properly.    I test all that I buy by strapping them to a tree and make sure they will spin the tires in forward and reverse.

Chargers are a great tractor, @pfrederi has several of them. Do the test that @Ed Kennell mentioned and ask about the seller's history with the Charger.

Hope you have room for more Wheel Horses, they tend to be habit forming.

:text-welcomeconfetti:  2  :rs:follow the advice given all ready to make sure it functions as it should.  If you end up purchasing it, we have a check list to go through a new to you tractor.  A good working hydro is a big advantage when mowing if you have a lot of forward reverse type work.

:text-welcomewave: You'll find no shortage of opinions, here!

WARNING!!! - This place is full of "enablers" that believe you should own a Wheel Horse for every day of the week! :hide:

With regards to the one you're asking about, location plays a factor. Make an offer and see where you and the seller come to agreement. Here is Indiana, it's a $400 to $500 find.

Once the Wheel Horse bug hits you, be prepared to spend more money on dialing it in and adding attachments.

That is a great model tractor.

Check the tires for age cracks , use that to negotiate.

What's your intended usage?

I'm not that familiar with that older style deck. But maybe someone can comment whether it has the "Double D" deck spindles and blade availability.

I know you can upgrade the deck to complete new spindles with common size shafts. An ebay seller has them for for the price of just buying bearings.

There should be guards over the deck pulleys, ask if he has them.

I have owned that model tractor and they work nicely.  Follow previous advice and you'll be fine.  That price is on the higher end in this area but that's this area.  Determine availability in your area and go from there.

You are correct , I don't see very many Wheel Horses here.  Garden tractors in general are hard to find.

They are rare out her and prices run high.  It says OBO so I am hoping that he will take $450-500

I have 5 aces of land, so it will be put to work pulling a yard trailer,  some mowing and I was hoping to come across a snowblower or front blade for it.

I had a GT14 about 12 years ago ago,  so I know what you mean.

Blades and blowers are a plenty but you might have to come to the Midwest to score.
