FLtractor 205 #1 Posted yesterday at 11:05 PM Evening, are these all the parts I’d need to convert K181 856 electric to Pullstart? Ones I’ve circled- shroud, magneto-pull cup
953 nut 68,892 #2 Posted yesterday at 11:15 PM I don't see a backing plate wit a magneto mounted to it.
C-85 820 #3 Posted 23 hours ago When I saw this post I thought this must be to add a rewind starter, looks like you're going real old style C-
ebinmaine 80,475 #4 Posted 23 hours ago Those look more like Tecumseh engines... The head bolts are through the upper plate and the gas tank bracket is angled odd. Mebbe not. But you'll need a fair amount of parts $$$ to change from a Starter/Generator engine to a pull start. And the labor....
adsm08 5,068 #5 Posted 23 hours ago (edited) The particular parts pictured are not for a pull-start, they are for a gear-drive starter. That setup will only work in your tractor if you relocate the battery (see @Thegearhead0324's 1267 thread). You will find on the short-frame units that a gear drive starter and the battery will attempt to occupy some of the same space, and Newtonian physics generally disallows this. True, but quantum theory says that this would be statistically possible - the probability of it happening make the probability of winning the Powerball seem actually encouraging. 1

We are dealing with batteries and starters. Objects at this scale and density tend to adhere to more Newtonian properties, and are generally not subject to the laws described by quantum physics. But there wouldn't be a gear drive starter there to occupy that space and he won't need a battery either since he wants to convert it to pull start. A battery would be needed to continue with using a battery ignition but even then, it could stay put in the tray. No physics necessary

However if you look at the parts he circled in the picture he posted, those particular parts are for a gear-drive starter. The flywheel has teeth, the engine shroud has a starter drop, and the screen technically has a pulley you could wrap a rope around, put it is not a true pull-start recoil setup. Those parts on an engine with the magneto ignition on it can still be used as a pull start only engine. No starter, no battery, no physics. I was going by the title and his question. The only mistake he made was calling the flywheel a magneto. There are some engines with gear starter that have magneto ignition that do not need the starter or a battery to run. They can still do it even though it has a ring gear and bump out on the shroud for a starter
702854boy 1,129 #11 Posted 21 hours ago The engine in the front of the photo looks like a tecky like @ebinmaine stated, it does not have to fuel pump area and the same breather as the kohlers. The engine in the back does however look like a kohler

702854boy 1,129 #13 Posted 9 hours ago At a second look, they both are techys because the back one has the carb hole and the exhaust hole on the front of the engine instead of the exhaust being on the side like a small block Kohler
stevasaurus 23,817 #14 Posted 3 hours ago I hate to say it, but why would you want to make any Tecumseh a Pull Start ?? My right arm is 3" longer then my left because of Pull Start Tecumseh's.
