what size drive belt do i need ?

  It’s the standard drive belt that all the 300 &  400 series 8 speeds use…WH Part#7473.

  I don’t know the actual size though.

Tractor drive belt  107939 replaced by 93-9809 - (HB x 83.5" or 5/8" x 83-1/2")

Gates replacement 6983

This belt works great on my 310-8.     I don't know if the 520 requires the 83 1/2 ", but the belts from TSC are returnable for a 100% refund.104_2651.JPG.d518f0437eee21adfba3dce3712e020b.JPG

@Ed Kennell, the Hydros have a much larger drive pulley on the engine than on an 8 speed requiring an inch longer belt, 5/8" X 82" for 8 speeds and 5/8" X 83" for a Hydro.

Good to know Richard.   But does his 520-8 use the same 82" belt as a 310-8 ?

The Briggs & Stratton Twin 8-speeds and the Onan Twin 8-speeds use the longer 83-1/2" belt. Gates and Napa replace it with 6983 which is 5/8" x 83" so that must be what length works best.
