Stan50 218 #1 Posted August 25 Convinced by @peter lena, I cut the baffles out, and did some minor repairs. I hope that will extend life of the deck and shorten cleaning time for sure. 1
ri702bill 12,729 #2 Posted August 25 As I recall, at least one model of the 3 blade recycler deck had bolt in removable baffles - THAT sounds like a solution & a good idea...
953 nut 68,250 #3 Posted Tuesday at 11:30 AM My baffles removed themselves one day while mowing. One side fell down, dug into the ground and stopped me dead in my tracks. Had to back it up all the way to the shop to remove the rest. Those big clods of grass that built up at the baffle intersections would have rotted the deck out. 2

Bugzilla46310 19 #5 Posted 22 hours ago If you just removed the 2 triangular pieces, wouldn’t you get similar results with respect to the grass clippings not packing in behind the baffles?
peter lena 9,998 #6 Posted 21 hours ago @Stan50 another VITAL STage OF RECOVERY , also do this after cutting season , propped up to a wall , with touch up lube to soak in for months , till spring , like a screw in eye bolt to wall beam then heavy extension spring to wide bend 5/16 metal hook . makes it very simple to grab , deck lift frame , done this for years . every bearing , lucas xtra hd green chassis grease , clean out any related bearing first , ENSURING NO LUBRICATIoN FAILURE , regular for me , pete

I have 1.5 acre grass to cut, terrain varies from small orchard, plain lawn and even small old hayfield so grass is often wet,and deck without the baffles is easier/faster to clean. I have mole problem too, so grass is sometimes packed with soil.
