42" RD deck - finally cut out baffles

Recommended Posts

Convinced by @peter lena, I cut the baffles out, and did some minor repairs. I hope that will extend life of the deck and shorten cleaning time for sure.

As I recall, at least one model of the 3 blade recycler deck had bolt in removable baffles - THAT sounds like a solution & a good idea...

My baffles removed themselves one day while mowing. One side fell down, dug into the ground and stopped me dead in my tracks. Had to back it up all the way to the shop to remove the rest.

Those big clods of grass that built up at the baffle intersections would have rotted the deck out.

If you just removed the 2 triangular pieces, wouldn’t you get similar results with respect to the grass clippings not packing in behind the baffles?

@Stan50   another VITAL STage OF RECOVERY , also  do this after  cutting season , propped up to a wall , with  touch up  lube to soak in for months , till spring , like a screw in eye bolt  to wall beam then heavy extension spring  to  wide bend  5/16  metal  hook . makes it very simple to grab , deck lift  frame , done this for years . every  bearing , lucas xtra  hd  green chassis grease , clean out  any related bearing first , ENSURING  NO LUBRICATIoN FAILURE  , regular for me , pete
