I have this B 60 I picked up last weekend. I may have an original engine for it this week end? Will know buy the end of the weekend. It currently has a 8 hp start /gen  motor in it now. It runs good.  But it is in a tight space. But looking for options. I have seen people use Harbor freight engines in them. With good results I guess? Any other options? I have always like these little B-60’S. Cool and very functional. Reason I picked this up I am try to preserve the 856 I have.It is the best one I currently have. I am restoring an B-100 correctly.  Any thoughts are welcome.

My own thoughts... keep it KOHLER powered.

Adjust that one with a shorter belt maybe?

Definitely insulate those S/G terminal ends from the gas tank spring. That's a serious problem.

You could also get the proper type 8 HP engine in there. Easy swap.

B-60s came factory with a 7hp pull start Kohler not sure if the model.

I'm a firm believer in "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" The voltage regulator could be rotated a bit forward and like @ebinmaine suggested the terminals should be insulated.

The yank start B-60 has been a desire of mine.  Not like I need another worker, but if one landed in my lap I’d probably enjoy it for a while!  :handgestures-thumbupright:

I should clarify  "proper type".

I mean get the S/G out and use a later model smaller starter.

That said, I'd really rather see it left as is and insulated.

Oh!

Yes I definitely would like to see that S/G stay in. I love the sound of those.

Looks like a nicely done transplant besides the voltage regulator proximity to fuel tank spring. I would leave it the way it is if it where me unless I was needing the little 8 fer some other project and had the proper Kohler to slide back in its place. No way would I replace a Kohler with a horror freight motor, tecky maybe but not a Kohler.:)

Agreed.

I wouldn't even do that. If I needed to transplant a non Kohler engine, I would find another Kohler instead of using ANY of the "inexpensive imports."

Don't get me wrong I have one predator swap that I done several years ago in a 550 Suburban and have had good luck with it, but if I had it to do over I would have waited and found the proper Tecky or Kohler. There is also a big aftermarket support for the Predators. Pic of 550 with Predator.

That B60 can easily be converted to a C120, C160 with the drop in of a larger engine..

Remember the 1976-77 series everything was the same on the top of the line models with the exception of Seats, Lights and Hp.

Hi Eric, thanks for the nice post. I’m looking for an engine replacement for this. I think Mike wants the engine that’s in it now as a safeguard for all the star GEN tractors he has so if you can keep an eye out for me that would be cool. I will be going down to the big show next year for the first time. I decided it’s about time. I get my ass down there. Never been because I do fishing with my brother in a tournament so next year is the year again thanks for the reply.

I can agree with that that would be nice. I’ve always wanted one of these. I think I’m gonna try Wayne rug. I think he may have one. Enjoy the rest of your weekend.

Again, I think Mike wants that engine so if I can find one meaning of the 7 hp I’d be happy and let Mike have this one so he can put it on the shelf as a spare.

Either 7 or 8 would be fine.

In fact if you ordered a 7 HP engine replacement,  some were actually an 8.

Erick I may have an engine for this B-60. Wayne Rugg says he may have an engine and a console. Thanks for the help.

I am all for keeping them original. The little 7hp pull-start is a great little engine. The only thing that I found to be troublesome was the little interlock module.
