1054 Hydraulic Cylinder Not Functioning

1054 Project

1054 with 5248 hydraulic assembly (model # A4CCWH pump). Cylinder is not moving either direction. Fluid level is good, pulley is turning fine.

It's a pretty simple system.

 

If the fluid level is correct, and the pulley SHAFT is spinning, I'd start by disconnecting the rock shaft from the ram and see if the ram can be moved by hand. If so it is likely to have bad seals inside and is in full bypass.

Your cylinder is a DOUBLE ACTING cylinder. with pressure applied to one end the fluid in the other end of the cylinder will be pushed back to the pump reservoir. If your cylinder is the welded type as shown then it can be rebuilt by @wheelhorseman, here is a link to his store.https://wheelhorsepartsandmore.com/product/welded-cylinder-repair/. Lowell also has hoses and pump kits.

Its usually he simple stuff that I struggle with! Thanks for the advice, I'll give it a try.

Look, I spent months trying to figure out why mine would go one way and not the other before I figured out that I didn't drive a roll pin in the whole way (on purpose, for testing) and the return spring was catching on it.

:confusion-confused:           If the cylinder isn't moving but the pump is developing pressure I would expect there would be some sound difference when the up-down lever is moved.

I just knew my pump was going bad once but I had left the pulley loose and it would spin on shaft, but sometimes it wouldn't spin on shaft and would work fine. I couldn't figure out why it would work great sometimes, sometimes wouldn't work and sometimes it would be slow, I finally noticed the pulley walking in and out on shaft and had enough since to tighten it up. Mine also never made any weird noises. Hopefully yours will be sumin simple too. I did change fluid in mine thinking it might help so at least sumin good did come out of it :D.

Takes a great deal of effort to pull the ram out (both hands and some grunting). Slightly less effort to push the ram back in.
