Front Mount Deck Hanger (42” SD)

I realized I never started a thread on this attachment, I’ve only mentioned it in other threads.  I made a good handful of picks last year and I don’t recall where this came from, but it’s very handy for mowing my deer trails!

 

Since I used it yesterday and seem to loose grip on the old belts, I decided to replace both of them.  
 

The spindle belt I used is a Huskee 1/2x86”, but it is tight at the smallest end of my adjuster.  I’d recommend to myself next time to use an 87” belt.

 

The PTO drive belt is a 1594 NOS Wheel Horse belt.

There is a ton of twist in the frame of this.

 

@c-series don gave me a straight frame, and I need to transfer all the hardware over.  It needs new bushings for the spindles and I’d like to give it some sort of lift kit for the big weeds and grass.

@Pullstart  make sure those  front  front wheel  swivels  are  well lubricated,  really enhances , any directional change , what does pto drive set up  sound / react like ?  its the COLLECTIVE  PTO  DRIVE  FUNCTIONAL , FEEDBACK  , that really tells the story . smooth  easy spin up , or  squealing train wreck ? totally agree with the belts , have them on all my stuff , no issues at all , remember , belt wear  is caused by  INCREMENTAL  BEARING  LUBRICATION  BREAKDOWN , bearing literally stops for a second , that also causes BELT BOUNCE  , a buzzing deck is showing you the way  . have also added a flat idler , on backside of  belts in long unsupported areas , just a light push back , simple  hole drilled in deck , smooth  no thread shoulder bolt , for slick idler spin , elastic lock nut / washer quickly sets mounting . lucas green chassis  grease , 550 deg , flash point , polyurea rated , stays with the bearing , never had a bearing fail or bind up . would love to try one of those , pete

What makes it better than a belly mower?      I'm thinking this may be better for mowing around the fence lines and under the wire.   I use my 48" SD with a guide to lift the bottom wire over the deck.  The 48 is wide enough to get under the wire, but a front mount would allow me to get around the posts easier.

deflection if you will.  It has the ability to ride up large objects that may be hiding in the long grass.  It’s quite nice to have the hopping bugs gone baby the time I arrive too!

looks like it would be good fer poking under bushes and low hanging fruit/limbs.

How does the PTO belt route to the mower deck. I have an NOS frame. but I always thought it was missing something and never fallowed through to determine exactly what I was missing. What length/width is a WH 1594 belt? Kent

Hopefully the video above helps explain things in short, but I believe I pulled apart a standard front mule drive to use those pulleys.

Good info Kev. Bret Esse has one and some decks I could probably get for short money and put it on busty or alice for a brush hog. Use it across the road for trails and the junior plow field.

I got smacked in the face by something quite solid yesterday, mowing along the beans.  It made me wonder how well a RD deck with maybe some rubber flap guard might work rather than the SD.  I tend to get the right side blade caught up, while all the chaff is flying through the chute.  It’s what controls my speed, or reversing a needed.  Also, the importance of safety glasses, even when just mowing.

Being a full-time eyeglass wearer and wanting basic full-time protection, I sought out a “sports strength” frame and specified extra-strength lens material for the prescription. The extra cost was very reasonable and the extra margin of safety reassures me.
