cafoose 3,813 #29 Posted July 20 (edited) Got the engine mounted and PTO hooked up. Do ya think the belt is too close to the other belt in the last pic? Thinking I may have to move the engine about an inch front. I have a parts 520 that I used the engine mount plate from and attached it to the Vanguard. Then I bolted the two plates together raising it up a tad. Progress so far. Edited July 20 by cafoose
sqrlgtr 3,702 #30 Posted July 20 @cafoose first pic is new belt,2nd pic is old belt, 3rd pic is numbers on new belt.
sqrlgtr 3,702 #31 Posted July 20 (edited) Looks too close in pic but pics are deciving sum times,If it were me and your using the 83" belt I would scoot the Briggs forward a little bit more if u can easy enough but you could always go shorter belt???? cafoose 3,813 #34 Posted July 20 I just removed the engine and drilled new holes 3/4 inch front. Little bit of a pain but I believe it's the best way to go.
Handy Don 17,316 #35 Posted July 20 You are making terrific progress. Very satisfying, I’m sure. What are you thinking for re-routing the exhaust?

Handy Don 17,316 #39 Posted July 20 Personally not a fan of straights. Too much respect for my hearing. Mellow stacks are good if you have clearance in use and for parking. Tuning dual cylinders into a single header might be tricky but interesting!

cafoose 3,813 #43 Posted July 21 @kpinnc @Lee1977 anybody else know how the throttle cable hooks up on the Vanguard? Where does the ignition wire go from the 520 ignition switch to the Vanguard? The regulator batt terminal goes to batt on the ignition switch correct? Coil kill on Vanguard to coil kill on ignition? I need to hook up the starter relay from the 520 to the Vanguard. Oil pressure switch on Vanguard to where on the 520? Tach on 520 to where on Vanguard? Anybody know the wire colors on the 520 to hook up on the Vanguard? cafoose 3,813 #44 Posted July 21 What's the best way to get the plastic knobs off the 520 choke and throttle levers?
Lee1977 7,750 #45 Posted July 21 (edited) I bought my Vanguards with the Briggs & Strattion switch prewired. Best get electrical information from Kevin. Both of mine the trottle hoop is the same. Choke hoop up. As for removing the plastic choke trottle levers. Go real easy with a claw hammer. Edited July 21 by Lee1977
kpinnc 18,884 #46 Posted July 21 5 hours ago, cafoose said: Didn't get that far yet, Open to suggestions? @kpinnc @Lee1977? I have bought manifolds from Ebay and modified them to use a canister muffler. They can be found pretty cheap ($30 or so). Takes a little welding to make it but they work well. 1
peter lena 10,013 #47 Posted July 21 @cafoose regularly suggest rislone zinc oil additive ? repetitive ENGINE VARNISH RELATED ISSUES , like piston ring hang up valve stem glue debris hang up, that varnish builds up and cools down like like a coral reef , to anything handy . also like a hi detergent 10-30 flat tappet oil , like valvoline , V R 1 , operational running ease is very apparent . don,t have any onans , but stay in touch with my tractors all the time . you were asking for suggestions , this is no instant miracle , but a thorough , engine oil drain / flush , and refill , just let it operate in a comfortable zone , BTW also use , STA BIL in all my fuels , no fuel hose break downs . if I had an onan , while still at pfizer , you can bet , that carb manifold would have been all s/s welded tubing , eliminating that repetitive issue . PTO inner needle bearing ? clean / flush it out , lucas , GREEN CHASSIS GREASE, XTRA HD , 550 FLASH POINT . very lightly , polyurea rated , insures easier spin up, also replace the outer sealed bearing , napa . related gold mine enhancement areas . nothing sarcastic , LOVE REPEDITIVE PROBLEMS , eliminate them , pete

Lee1977 7,750 #49 Posted July 21 (edited) I made the franges for this one. It's 3/4" steel conduit and 2" tail pipe. There is nothing in the tail pipe. The end is 1 1/2' black pipe with 90 degree bend. Welded on it is a 1" washer and two 3/4" washers seperated wieh drilled out 1/4" nuts.
