1968Commando 172 #1 Posted Monday at 04:39 PM Has anybody ever made a homemade snow plow? I got a welder that’s no big deal, I would be plowing a concrete driveway so want to avoid tearing that up.
Ed Kennell 46,308 #2 Posted Monday at 06:26 PM Snow plows are cheap $100-$200. Probably cost more than that for iron and weld wire to make one.
pfrederi 20,745 #3 Posted Monday at 06:45 PM You can probably pick up a plow with a worn edge cheaper than making something that may or not fit/operate correctly. Put a piece of plastic on it like the one in the picture ..no scratches on your driveway
OoPEZoO 598 #4 Posted Monday at 06:49 PM (edited) I agree with Ed. I love fabricating stuff and seeing other people’s creations and homemade solutions. I also use my tractors for plowing. There is no way I would ever consider trying to make a plow. They are “cheap” and typically readily available. I mean, maybe adapting a different plow blade to fit a wheelhorse plow frame would make sense in certain situations, but the main plow frame? Forget about it, just buy one @pfrederi, how often do you have to change out that plastic edge? I just got my driveway repaved last week and it’s time to replace my plow edge. Curious what you use and how well they hold up? Edited Monday at 06:53 PM by OoPEZoO
pfrederi 20,745 #5 Posted Monday at 07:09 PM I had one a 42" blade for several years in float mode. The one pictured is on a 48" blade that has been used for 4 years but now I use down pressure it is wearing some. Now I use it mostly to plow the section of driveway that is pavers the rest is gravel so only about 75'. Price has gone way up since I bought the 48' piece and that was more than the original 42"

ri702bill 12,291 #7 Posted Monday at 09:36 PM (edited) Too bad you can't invert it for a second go when it wears thru... Good inexpensive, readily available choice of off the shelf material, if I must say so.. Edited Monday at 11:31 PM by ri702bill
C-85 805 #8 Posted 9 hours ago I have a friend who has 2 plows that she'd like to sell. One is in good condition and the other one the bottom is severely worn. These belonged to Duff, who passed away last year and she is still working on selling his inventory. She asked me to post this and if you have any interest, please let me know. These are in New Hampshire, so I don't know how much traveling you'd be up for. I tried to add some pictures, but wasn't able to, but I bet I'd be able to send them directly. Bar Nuthin 2,538 #9 Posted 6 hours ago (edited) I second the notion of the plastic wear strip for use on sealed blacktop. This one is HDPE and shows minimal wear after two years. Got it from ShapesPlastics.com. Ordered it "Cut to Size" - all I had to do was drill holes. Ordered it wide enough that I can flip it, if it ever wears out.
