oliver2-44 11,552 #1 Posted 18 hours ago Well things finally caught up with me and I got a call from a County Sheriffs Deputy yesterday (fake) All thought they missed the big items, (Ha), and just said the judge fined me and sent warrants since I didn't report to Federal Jury Duty Tuesday. (fake) Had a real official mannerism. Had my name, address, garbled a Drivers License number (wouldn't repeat it) He did a bunch of official sounding jaw jacking and fake sheriff radio background noises. Claimed to be Sheriffs Deputy, said he could put me in touch with a bond company over the phone to get an immediate bond, pay with credit card loan, so I don't get picked up and hauled in tonight. Too many little things seemed fake so I hung up. I texted the local Sheriffs office, yep scam they are well aware of but calls are not trace able. I got the same call twice today. (interesting the call came in as "Maybe (wife's name) each time So I started having fun wasting his time. Asked him if he knew my cousin in County Jail there or, my brother Bill from another mother! (he didn't catch that one) I told him I could trade him some good tractor parts, but that they probable would never bond me since I hung around online with the Tractor Mafia (I should get a Mafia T shirt for that one) and on and on. I finally asked him what $ cut he got for "arranging" the bond and he hung up. O the crafty crap that is out there these days. 1
ebinmaine 79,187 #2 Posted 11 hours ago Trina's mom has been retired and on SS for a couple decades. She's below the income level that's required to pay taxes. A couple years ago she got a call saying that "the cops" were on the way over. Cops? Really? We couldn't find a more official descriptor?
squonk 46,911 #3 Posted 9 hours ago Yup. Got a call from a Fraud Detection Center about my bank account. Sounded fake so I hung up. Couple days later my card stops working. Went into the bank and checked why. Somebody somehow got my bankcard # last week. They tried to spend 4 grand at a bicycle place. The bank saw it and shut the account down. I'm glad all it took was getting a new card. 2

Use my 110 yo voice Fake poor hearing to get them to repeat everything Let them know you appreciate thier call and remind them to call thier mother every day Then when it's time for my lunch, tell them I can't remember my bank account and routing numbers but if he gives me his address I will have my Grandson meet him at his door. My grandson is a 250 lb 6' 5" ex marine that is now a state policeman.
rmaynard 17,253 #5 Posted 7 hours ago Yup, every day or so I get a call from someone claiming to be able to help me with my overdue taxes before I'm arrested. Funny that they think I would even fall for their scam. I don't know how others do.

My wife hates when I do the same thing. Usually, I will let them go on and on, then when they take a break to get their breath, I just say Hello?
ri702bill 12,263 #7 Posted 6 hours ago (edited) My favorite is the grandkid in trouble scam. You get a phone call from some far away Police Station claiming your grandchild was arrested and wants you to wire the money for them to post bail.... I tell them "Fat chance on that!!! I really don't like that little ba$tard that much anyway!! Go punt"!! Edited 6 hours ago by ri702bill
adsm08 4,593 #8 Posted 6 hours ago I got one of these a few weeks ago. Text message from PennDOT about outstanding tolls etc etc, suspend my license, yadda yadda. Enough details were right to make it sound legit, and enough process was wrong to know it's BS. PennDOT doesn't have my cell number, and they don't send those notices by text, they use registered mail. I ignored it, next day I saw a story on a local new website about this is a known scam.
EB-80/8inPA 2,011 #9 Posted 4 hours ago I miss the days when, in a simpler time, I was only ever asked to provide my account details to Nigerian princes seeking to transfer their vast wealth to America (and share it with me). Or is this progress? SMH. I had to replace a card when a merchant, previously considered legitimate, enrolled me in a bi-weekly auto re-ordering scheme. It’s almost enough to cause a loss in faith in humanity lolz.

Talking about jail if I don't pay back taxes. I am a 60 yr vet on disability. Michigan-No Taxes. Funny that they dont seem to know that.

Dont scan QR code, but you could call them and have fun with them and waste some time.
Ed Kennell 46,251 #14 Posted 3 hours ago Just had one this AM, a sweet southern belle voice answered checking on my SS A &B status. After using my 110 yo demented voice, she transferred me to her supervisor.. Had the Indian accent supervisor on the string for 10 minutes till he didn't want to meet my 250 lb state policeman grandson.

I made what was advertised as a one time purchase and they enrolled me in an auto-renewal subscription. I only found out the next month when the auto-renew overdrew our secondary checking account. 953 nut 66,710 #16 Posted 1 hour ago I got one of those pay now or we will come and get you phone calls several years ago. He said the Highway Patrol had a warrant for my arrest and if I paid by giving him my credit card information he could stop them. I told him to write down my new address so the Patrolmen wouldn't go the wrong address because the guy who lives at my old address has lots of guns and loves to use Patrolmen as target practice. He hung up on me!
