What size battery would a 1257 use for the big battery box like original, not the typical lawn and garden batteries

Some used a Group 24NF.

The "NF" is important.

I've been using a much easier to get Group 35 in a couple of my tractors.

The 35 is a little narrower than the 24NF so I put a small wooden spacer in the tray to take up the slack.

The more important question is, why do you want one when the modern U1 works fine?

It is absolutely paramount to make sure ALL your cables and grounds are large enough and in good condition.

In my 1257, I was using a 51 series battery,  height was good and the width was shorter so could be moved a bit for clearance of wires and stuff. But then changed it up and now I have a lawn/garden battery hidden under my seat pan.

Do you have pics or info about that?

Any sheet metal modifications needed?

@ebinmaine , yes I do, these were from few years back, I removed the tray, then clearanced out the sides a bit under the pan. I still need to made a brace going across the top but fits snug so I haven’t bothered.
