With guidance from @Bill D….

 

Took off the plastic trigger ring using a small hook-end pic.

 

Found a few small pieces on the flywheel magnets of what I assume are old flywheel key and/or pieces gouged off the crankshaft.

 

Cleaned the trigger ring with acetone.

 

Reinstall the ring with correct side out.

But now…I don’t like the way the flywheel bolt threads in. The first few threads look sketchy so I rethreaded them. Still don’t like the way it threads in - to tight. I tried a standard 7/16-14 and it felt the same way. I’m thinking I just screw it in…

You should replace the flywheel.  That magnet will shed more pieces, jam into the charging stator and ruin the stator or break the stator mounting tabs off the cam cover.  You can chase the threads in the crank with a tap.

This would be my biggest worry and would really check magnets out. If I were in doubt, I would try and run down a good fly wheel. Its hard to tell in Pic how much damage has been done through and if you're not worried about them then go for it.

I guess I’m on the lookout now for new flywheel. If anyone’s got one, please let me know. If you know where I can get one at a reasonable price, please let me know that as well. Thanks.

To answer your question, for a baby….yes  😁

 

For a shop to hold your tractor and not work on it…no. 

 

I would have went and gotten the tractor after about two weeks of no activity.

At least you’re fixing it yourself the right way, and not paying through the nose to possibly get it fixed. With the wealth of knowledge here you should get the issue taken care of quickly.

Place an ad in the wanted section of the classifieds. Someone may have on. K&B and A-Z should have them as well.  I'm pretty sure the P216, 218 flywheels will work as well.

And wouldn’t you know I actually threw one away about a month ago! I had a P216 with real bad knock. I took a few parts off it and scraped the rest. I got tired of it taking up space in my shop and moving it around. As I was getting it out of my truck to scrap it I remember thinking someone would probably take this for parts! But who? And when? Nope, I’m trying to have less junk in my life so away it went. Had I known @PWL216 was going to need the flywheel I would have gladly saved it for him. It’s one of those things that we all think “As soon as I get rid of that, I’m going to need it!” And then we don’t throw it out and then look around and think “How did I accumulate all this stuff?!!” Correct me if I’m wrong, but most of you know exactly what I’m talking about 😂😂

I understand he was living with his mom and had a lot of storage but now she’s moving and he’s downsizing.
