John A 33 #1 Posted 21 hours ago As I was mowing with my Classic GT 315-8, the cutting deck began to stop periodically, I think due to some issue with the PTO switch. As if the switch was turned off. To get the PTO engaged and the deck cutting, I would just push the switch in and pull it out again. Immediately, the deck PTO belt was turning and cutting the grass. Do these symptoms point to a faulty PTO Switch on the console? The switch is the original PTO switch on the tractor. gwest_ca-(File Mod) 12,213 #2 Posted 20 hours ago The pto switch gets it's power from the No Mow in Reverse module. I should rephrase that - gets it's power from the ignition switch but the NMR module controls the pto clutch. There is a test procedure for the switch. Click on the picture of it. 953 nut 65,736 #3 Posted 9 hours ago As @gwest_ca pointed out, there is a lot going on to keep the mower turning. The first step should be to examine the wiring system for corrosion or loose contacts. The drawing below shows the electrical components that should be looked at. When the PTO stops turning does the PTO light also turn off or is it illuminated? Is the connector on the back of the PTO Switch good and tight? Are the connections at the NMIR switch good and tight? How about the reverse switch, it may have some debris that causes it to open thinking it is in reverse? Your fuses are near the battery and it is not uncommon for the fuse holders to have some corrosion in them. Just5 a few places to look before spending money to replace a switch that may be perfectly good.
John A 33 #4 Posted 1 hour ago Thanks guys. I did remove the PTO switch from the console and it tested okay. I later found the ground wire bundle from the battery was loose. Pitiful on my part. After putting everything back, the problem is fixed. The grounding wire is a problem with this aluminum block engine. John
