Razorback 1,276 #1 Posted yesterday at 08:40 PM I noticed that the fuel pump on my C160 is leaking. The attached pic is after I had wiped it with a rag. But it looked to me like it was leaking from the top cover area. In and out hoses are good. The pump has the letter B casted into it. I would appreciate suggestions for repairing what I have….. not real interested in converting to an electric pump, but I guess I could if necessary. Thank you! sqrlgtr 2,732 #2 Posted yesterday at 08:49 PM I have had great success rebuilding the fuel pumps on mine. I sourced the parts from https://www.thenandnowautomotive.com/ and you can call and talk to a real person .

ri702bill 11,977 #4 Posted yesterday at 09:38 PM (edited) Leaking oil or gas?? DO check your oil - pull the dipstick and smell it for raw gas... If present - fix the pump & change the oil before starting it.! Edited yesterday at 09:38 PM by ri702bill

Not pouring down, but wet and noticable gas smell in the shed. OK, OK..... please point me to a good how-to for the electric pump........ then I can compare and weigh the options. Thank you for the pointers. Edited 20 hours ago by Razorback
Bill D 2,792 #9 Posted 20 hours ago I went this route. Kawasaki fuel pump. Homemade mounting plate. 2
JoeM 9,815 #10 Posted 18 hours ago Mounted an electric pump on this C81 on the frame and ran the + wire up to the coil connection. Starts when your reaching for the key, no hesitation. Was ,messing with some steel tubing but not necessary. I mounted the filter near the tank. 2

ri702bill 11,977 #13 Posted 12 hours ago 4 hours ago, Razorback said: Maybe I could consider this?? Electric fuel pump from O'Reilly No - the output pressure is too high and would cause constant carb flooding. The low pressure Facet that @squonk mentioned is the one of choice.....
Bill D 2,792 #14 Posted 11 hours ago Here's some better pictures of the mounting plate I made. If you go this route use a genuine Kawasaki pump. They are made in Japan by Mikuni. Much better quality than the Chinese knock off pumps. 1

Mike and I swear buy them 1to 2 Psi for most but a 16 may be the next step up? If you go this route you will need a cover where the pump was. eBay has them. squonk 46,253 #16 Posted 10 hours ago As long as the old pump isn't leaking oil, just leave the hoses off and use the pump to block the hole. I've had an electric on my C160 for over 5 years with the old pump still on it.

I have no idea if the previous owner of my C160 ever had to do anything with this mechanical pump..... if I can get a decent rebuild kit, I might do a combination of these "fix" suggestions. 1) rebuild the existing pump and leave it in place but disconnected, and 2) install an electric pump just to see how it does. (and 3) remove/rebuild/block off/put on shelf??) Nothing like a "belt plus suspenders" kind of fix!
oliver2-44 11,433 #19 Posted 8 hours ago When you rebuild the old pump (I didn’t say IF) flatten the top cover and case gasket surfaces on sand paper just like you would flatten an aluminum head. Also be sure to send Then and Now a picture of your pump, there are several styles of those old pumps PS I use the old original pumps when I can. And install electric when I don’t have a good original one. Both types the job.

I wouldn't hesitate to install an Epump if I didn't have one of the mechanical pumps to rebuild and matter of fact I have a Epump on the shelf for when that happens, BTW none of my tactors, with the rebuilt pumps, have had any trouble starting after setting for extended periods. here is the one I have on the shelf waiting patiently for its turn . https://www.pegasusautoracing.com/productdetails.asp?RecID=9811

I sent them an email this morning with pictures and the part number I got from Kohler/Wheel Horse doc (A-236205)…. Waiting for a reply. I tried calling them this morning…. Message said they are short-staffed and only manage the phone a couple of days per week. So, we’ll see.
