Thegearhead0324 1,492 #1 Posted 5 hours ago I had a random thought so I thought I’d post and ask this. When I’m doing outdoor lawn stuff and cleanup and everyday chores around the house, I wear these (my ol lady keeps begging me to get new ones). I have boots of course and other dressy shoes like for winter and going out. But why ruin other shoes when I can rock these?
lynnmor 8,764 #2 Posted 5 hours ago I removed the mower deck belt guards because of leaf clogging and then lost my balance on a hillside, sneakers like that allowed a pulley go right thru the bottom and sent me to the emergency room. I now keep the guards on and wear leather shoes. 1
SylvanLakeWH 31,165 #3 Posted 5 hours ago Steel toed work shoes / boots are the only thing I wear in the garage and doing yard work... I currently wear keen utility shoes and boots. Both steel toed. 2
ri702bill 11,947 #4 Posted 5 hours ago And we all know what @Pullstart usually wears ...!! They don't call him "The Flip-Flop Kid" for no reason... In the old days (when the Company bought me a new pair every year) the choice would be Red Wing steel toed low cut boots. Now it's a not-new-anymore pair of walking shoes. Winter plowing - insulated high top boots. Two wraps of white Duct Tape will allow you to get into the summer with those... 1
Razorback 1,270 #5 Posted 5 hours ago Always steel-toed boots outside. After having worn through several pairs of cheap boots, I bit the bullet and bought some Thorogood boots. Comfortable, well-built, with replaceable soles, and I can clean them up using the delicate tip on the pressure washer wand. After I do that, I treat them with mink oil. I’ve had them for 3 or 4 years…. I feel that it was money well spent.

I used to wear Timberland Pro, but they discontinued the ones I liked, and the replacement was not as good, so I switched. I now wear Red Wings for almost everything. I keep two pairs, switch them daily, and get about 18 months from a pair, and replace the inserts once in that time. Edited 5 hours ago by adsm08

Comfortable safety is critical. A steel toe saved my foot many years ago when a cart tipped over at my factory summer job. The union contract required them and offered a good discount. As an adult I got a broken toe while working in the garden and a landscape tie fell on my ratty sneakers. Duh. Back to safety shoes! Now wearing Orthofeet which use composite toe caps. They include extra inserts to cope with my flat feet. They last about two years.
ri702bill 11,947 #8 Posted 2 hours ago I did have the chance - twice - to put the steel toe to the test. Mid 80's, a 1/2" large steel plate slipped off the drill press table at work & bounced off the end of the toe cap. A good thing it was not 3" back! Our old chocolate Lab loved to dig in the grass ... about the same time, I ended up stepping in a hole she dug & pulled the running push mower over the top of the boot. Scalped the leather off the cap. Lucky save. Luckily it was not a new pair of work boots!

I still use the Timberland Pro Endurance EV. They fit well right out of the box so no long break in period. They were better about 8-9 years ago but... Composite toes for me. The steel is to cold and heavier

Besides those comfortable and stylish sneakers I have, I like to wear my other favorite pair of boots. Very comfortable and durable, pic was taken a few years ago. Not steel toe but I also have a pair of red wings (logger insulated steel toe) that I only wear if we get pounded with snow and cold weather, because those boys are very heavy on my legs. JCM 11,132 #11 Posted 1 hour ago For working in the woods Red Wing logger steel toe insulated and for Trade work 8'' # 606 work boot. Both types made in the USA. Expensive yes and worth it. Clean them and oil them. Their Worx series boots are NOT made in the States. Big difference.

The Insulated Boots I bought on sale. I went to the store and asked an Associate where they were. She told me they were on an endcap near the back of the store.. She asked me what size I needed; I replied it depends on what part of "Cheap-o-nesia" they came from. Start off with a 10-1/2 Wide, end up with an 11-1/2 Wide that fit.....
