RBM 12 #1 Posted 7 hours ago Hello...I have a quick question regarding my air filter on my kohler k301/ Wheel Horse 12 automatic...I was recently changing the air filter and I started it while it was off and realized it ran much better even with the new air filter...what should I do about this? Is there a high flow air filter? if so what should I do?

A new clean filter should be more than adequate for the engine. Do you use ethanol fuel? How old is the fuel line? Fuel filter? When was the most recent carburetor rebuild and total fuel system clean out?

RBM 12 #4 Posted 1 hour ago This is the whole fuel system run down/ everything I did to it...Today-I had been chasing an issue with the fuel filter not filling up I had cleaned the shut off valve Saturday did not fix the issue...I came home to the smell of gas and discovered the seal went bad in the shut off valve so I bypassed it for now...I will tear in to it some day if I can't fix it I will buy an inline shut off valve...Fuel pump- it had the original metal fuel pump on it then it started leaking and acting up which made it catch on fire about 5 times because the muffler was right underneath the fuel pump so it would drip on the muffler and catch fire...I put a cheap plastic fuel pump on it but it failed after 2 weeks so I invested in a quality "I Save Tractors" Fuel pump it was worth the price it has been on there for about 4 years and still going strong. The carb is about 5 years old bought it new...I just replaced the fuel filter about 2 weeks ago it is clean...so the fuel shut off valve was the issue with the engine not getting enough gas. I run ethanol free gas in it religiously. Could I have a stuck intake valve because I have noticed a little bit of gas in the air filter before?...if so what do I do? I have no desire to get the engine rebuilt or take apart the valve cover with it being caught on fire so many times and end up not getting it to seal again or it be warped then having to source parts for it. Fuel line is mostly about 15 years old but flows freely and is in decent shape.
