clip 185 #1 Posted 11 hours ago (edited) Getting back into WH after a few years and a 520H has popped up locally I'll be checking out. 93/94 maybe (controls on the column) 700-900 hours, refreshed 48" deck and a snow blade. Asking price is $3000 but after browsing the classifieds it looks like this is at the higher end of the price range. Apparently it's had the hydraulic pump replaced, which I'm interpreting as the Eaton 1100. It sounds like maintenance has been kept up, and the pictures reflect this. When I go to look at it I'll be checking for the usual leaks and smoke, as well as any valve train noise from the Onan and confirm it's got the plow bracket on the rear axle. Any other specifics to check out? Anyone have recent data points to compare for pricing? Edited 11 hours ago by clip
ri702bill 11,484 #2 Posted 10 hours ago Onan.... look at the condition of the dreaded 9 pin connector in the wiring harness closely. Perhaps even seperate the halves to look at the condition (ask first). It is the source of the majority of starting / charcing problems due to high resistance over the years that melts it.....
JCM 10,899 #3 Posted 10 hours ago On the high end for sure unless it's mint. Plow brackets are usually around if you need one. Good Luck
JCM 10,899 #4 Posted 9 hours ago Bought my first 1993 520-H around 2001 from a dealer that took it on a trade for a Kubota for $ 2750.00. Then ended up taking the Eaton 1100 apart and sending the Pump out to have serviced. Strap it to a tree and make sure the rear tires spin in both directions. It was blowing the Hydro oil filters up to make them look like a frozen soda can. Kept it and sold it 3 or 4 years after to 2 friends, one still owns it. In 2002 I bought a one owner 1991 with 400 ish hours on it, still have it. The one in the picture with the Kwik-Way loader in the background is the 1991 I still own. Awesome tractors Good Luck
Ed Kennell 45,222 #5 Posted 7 hours ago Think I paid $400 for my '88 about 10 years ago. It was neglected 900 hour horse with a badly surging engine. Three carb cleanings cured the surging. Decarboned, set valves, new RR, efuel pump, and replaced leaking gasket under oil filter base. Raised seat and fender pan 2" for better tire chain clearance and operator( comfort. Installed and altered the cab that I bought from @roadapples (rest easy Jay) to collect the heat from the rear cylinder thru the vented belt guard. Added a foot pedal motion control. The cab stays about 30* warmer than the outside temp in this dedicated snow plow/dozer machine.
pfrederi 20,024 #6 Posted 7 hours ago Eato 1100s are pretty rugged and have a good rep. To have to replace one at 700-900 hours makes you wonder how it was treated/maintained.....

Some used for pulling logs and dozer work with 2 link vee bar chains and 500 lbs of rear weights and the Eatons will still spin the tires. Never had an Eaton show any sign of failing. They do have an unexplained quirk. Some move and lift immediately and some require a 10 minute warm up before they will move.
Lee1977 7,602 #8 Posted 6 hours ago It would need to be almost show room perfict for $3000 or have a loader attached.

I paid $650 for a fully functional (including all the guages) 520-H that was in decent shape. It was probably too much at that time but is the max I would give for one unless it was showroom perfect. $3K would be if it had under 100 hours and garage kept perfect paint with a couple equivalent attachments and new tires. ...Maybe. It would have to be awfully nice.
