Found an LSE today

Recommended Posts

Bill D

I stop to visit a friend today.  He's an older gentleman that's been fixing tractors for years.

I was looking around his yard and spotted a 420 LSE.  Poor thing is tired though,  1449 hours and had a rough life.  37" deck is shot.  He said it ran last fall but something was wrong with it and he wasn't sure what exactly.  Hood badge is gone.

Could be mine, but what's it actually worth?  I certainly don’t need another one.  Sorry,  no pictures.   I forgot to take them before we covered it back up.

Perhaps it's worth saving...? At least get it dry and assess... :twocents-twocents:

If it is the real deal with the XXX of 200 tag intact  it is highly desireable. If it is a clone, maybe let it go.....

The 420 I picked up is in really rough shape also. Hope to spend some time on it this year.

Pretty sure it's not a clone.  Did the LSE have 5 lug chrome front rims?  Tag is gone just 4 holes in the hood.

I've seen a few of that model abused and neglected. I just don't get it. At least that one had some hours of service.

I believe so - and the heavy duty hubs & bearings.

All depends on how badly you want to own a LSE.   Chrome plating, correctly done leather upholstery and restoration of the LSE only steering wheel would be very expensive.  :wwp:     But, if you don't decide to buy it post some pictures and someone on here will want to show it some love.

Nice find. Even if it's tired.

@Bill D   That's okay if the metal plate is gone on the hood. Those could probably be made up at an engraver. That along with a registration card was to be sent back to WH with info what the new owner wanted engraved on it. The serial number was on the fender pan and the number when built as well. Hate to see it go to waste.

Regular 400 series front axle etc, as far as I know.

I'm thinking 6 lug fronts. Too cold to head out to the shop.

Not a LSE fan but if Don or the Plunge were to gimme theirs ...

Worth a couple hundred tops and that's if it runs ... 100 if it don't of course depends on how neglected.

Never fails to amaze me how that expensive of a  tractor in the day gets reduced to not much more than scrap value. Went thru  many POs that just didn't know I guess.

I agree with you but man it seems like lately the market for these Wheelhorse's is going up. I see worn out tractors going for 500-600 all the time.

I'll reach back out to the owner next week sometime and see if he has a price in it.  Don't want to look too eager.  I don't need another one, and I'm trying hard to suppress my inner Redneck that is attracted to shiny objects (Jeff Foxworthy reference).
