peter lena 9,779 #1 Posted February 4 dropped my wife off at the constitution joint center , this morning , for a thumb bone issue , been to same center for hip , back work . the work is very thorough , with back up home therapy assistance , my overall opinion of this is very good , and most important is ACTUALLY GOING TO GET IT FIXED , the fear is very evident to someone that refuses to get help , that also grows in the wrong way , always having a reason NOT TO GET IT FIXED . you can sense the fear , and excuses . on the way back , stopped at walmart , just a regular day . pete
squonk 45,595 #2 Posted February 4 Common thumb issue. Arthritis in the CMC joint at the base of the thumb. I have it in my left thumb. Hurts like crazy when it flares up. They remove the trapezium bone and use part of a tendon rolled up in it's place. I've been hesitant to get it looked at as I've been told after surgery your in a cast for almost 6 months
peter lena 9,779 #3 Posted February 7 wifes . CMC joint , went very well , 2 days after she removed the , difficult to use arm sling , basically you are recovering arm muscle memory that was stopped with novacane usage . fingers look close to normal / color / function , hand will stay wrapped up another week or more , then dr removal , I have been filling in for anything that needs help . that joint center has been a lifesaver for us . the initial , informational class , given to upcoming patients , is very thorough , questions / answers , had my back / hip done here , thats all they do , also an eye center close by , been there too , lazer work is commonality today . getting past the fear / terror phase is not even an issue , you own personal involvement to finish it , is vital . i,m bionic pete

C-85 781 #5 Posted February 8 I'd like to share this, I have had carpel tunnel (CT) surgery on both wrists and have thumb joint arthritis too! And who is to blame, Wheel Horse of course! This is a true story and this is because a few years ago I decided to sand blast an entire C series black hood, hood. I spent about 5 hours waving a sand blast wand over the hood with both hands and that went okay but the next morning I woke up with severe pains in my hands! It was so bad I had to get looked at and ended up with some steroid pills to ease the pain! I still don't know how or why this happened right then, but I got diagnosed with carpel tunnel and thumb joint arthritis! For years I tried hand braces but my hands got worse and kept going to sleep, so I finally got the CT surgery. Our local VA did both arthroscopically (separately) and this went great, I think he did a very good job! The doctor timed it and it was 12m each time and that part is much better now. My thumbs are still a problem, like Squonk wrote, the cure is pretty invasive so I'm living with it for now. As a result, we have changed several things and we've changed most of our door knobs to door levers and I recently bought a spray can shaker because I have a very hard time holding a rattle can and shaking it with my hands! Good luck with your hands! C-85
