rmaynard 16,623 #1 Posted 9 hours ago I am looking for a used 8MM camcorder. I recently found a box of 8MM tapes that I recorded when my kids were little. Some were sports, others I don't have a clue. So here's my problem. My camcorder broke, and so did my son's. The tapes were stored away, only to be found yesterday. I'd like to see what's on them. Does anyone have an 8MM camcorder that I can buy to playback these tapes? I've posted a want ad.

I had oodles of 50’ 8mm and super8 film Dad shot during our younger days. I did quick & dirty splices to get them chronological and cut out the excess leaders winding up with five or six 400’ reels. Those I had professionally digitized and it was worth the cost. We’ve since done some digital editing and titling (no sound track--not my thing) and I’ve shared the results with my siblings as a big MPEG.
rmaynard 16,623 #4 Posted 7 hours ago 1 hour ago, squonk said: https://legacybox.com/ I have used them for slides. Expensive and the quality was suspect. I don't want to send the tapes anywhere before I know what's on them. I don't need a bunch of digital files of me walking around with the button pressed and the lens pointed towards the ground. 2
c-series don 10,648 #5 Posted 7 hours ago @rmaynard Bob your showing your age when you say slides!! I remember as a kid, the family gathering around to watch slides. No we didn’t have one of those fancy carousel projectors, we had the one where you had to manually slide the thing in and out. I can still remember the sound it made. My mom still has a bunch of them that were my dad’s. I’d like to get a projector and view them. Seems like a good winter’s night thing to do. Nowadays I bet half of the population doesn’t even know what slides are!
Treepep 880 #6 Posted 7 hours ago Date and label all the things guys. I know, I know. Life happens. You kept it for a reason right? What was that reason?... IDK its not labeled and dated. X mas 1959. Camping oldest kid.graduation, etc. etc. I do not think I recorded things I didn't want to see. I MAY have recorded things I didn't want others to see. Idk nothing nefarious. Once we filmed a soda can in a cast iron dutch oven with oil. It was over a campfire. Stand back. There is a distinctive click then a 14 foot completely vertical fireball. I wish I had that to share... As we all know, toss then darn it I found a use for that. Also no clue of the use. Careful out there on those webs gents and gals! Shipping film that I know the content seems scary. And shipping recorded business I am unaware is scarier. As @Maynard said the low end is camera on and no real purpose. 'then I am like 200 years old. It is amazing I can muddle through the square.
