Handy Don 15,892 #477 Posted Sunday at 02:51 AM When the national weather service upgraded the warning for my neck of the woods to “Blizzard,” I started to take this seriously. Current we’re in the 12-18 band with the localized being 11-15. We’ll see!
c-series don 11,347 #478 Posted Sunday at 02:52 AM Today it was hard to believe that there’s a blizzard coming. I went down to the ocean to check it out. It was beautiful! Monday the seas are supposed to be 9-15’! As I looked to the east I noticed someone stuck and close to the water with an incoming tide. I walked back to my truck to get my binoculars and saw the guy digging out with a DOG BOWL! So I figured I’d do the right thing and grabbed the shovel and two tire pressure gauges out of my truck then walked about a quarter mile down the beach. Where I was parked you can’t just drive on. When I got to this gentleman he was super appreciative and really nice. We dug and dug and aired it down to 15psi. As we were almost done another guy walked down the beach with two of those plastic board boards with the nipples sticking up that are supposed to help you get unstuck. Apparently this guys wife saw this going on and called him to come lend a hand. We jammed them under the rear tires and he was out! The owner of the vehicle was very happy with our help and asked for my name and address. Three hours later two nice bottles of wine were delivered to my house from the local liquor store with a thank you note attached! 4 5

c-series don 11,347 #481 Posted Sunday at 03:11 AM (edited) Correct @Handy Don he pretty quickly admitted that he didn’t know what he was doing. I grew up driving on the beach, learning from some old timers and experience. Since high school (which is about two miles from where those pictures were taken) I have been towing and/or helping people off the beach. Every human has stuff going on. Be sympathetic, NOT pathetic. Despite themselves I believe there is good. Selfishly I pretend the Vendor,Parts desk human, or Teller etc. has just lost a family member or beloved pet. Denied a raise. didn't get child support etc. It is difficult to putter around on the high road. Better view for certain! Went to TSC yesterday. Told an experienced gentleman(I respect my elders and try to assume they know more things) he had a light out on his trailer. He said "F*&! you! That is a trigger for me. Almost 50 years old so I can effectively "duck butt" that brand of rudeness. 25 years ago that human would be in hospital, jaw wired shut. I would visit and feed jello through a straw though. Keep cool in this MAD world folks!
lynnmor 8,613 #492 Posted Sunday at 01:59 PM I had a sudden battery failure in a large busy parking lot on Friday, a little old lady and a young chick with a jump pack both stopped and offered help. The dudes in the Silverado and Ram diesel idling nearby avoided eye contact. I had help coming but it was interesting to see who the good “guys” were. 2

It's priceless and something that can't be bought or even given to you. "Honor is a man’s gift to himself" suggests that honor is an intrinsic quality, shaped by personal values and integrity. It emphasizes that true honor cannot be bestowed by others; rather, it is cultivated through self-respect and moral choices. This concept implies that a person's sense of honor is a reflection of their character and beliefs, guiding their actions and decisions in life." ( Search "John Artis" A man that did 15 years in prison because he would not falsely testify against his friend. Unlikely that many will recognize that name but will probably recognize his friend"s name ) And just to be clear, I wasn't always Peter Pan and certainly don't claim to be one now! But maybe it's a matter of making amends for being my angry younger self and for some of the things I've done. It was an act of kindness that effected me and it's doubtful that person even realizes they made a difference. I'm a slow learner when it comes to things like this. And I'd bet Don feels pretty good about helping and it cost him $0 to do it. Edited yesterday at 03:12 AM by wallfish 2
8ntruck 8,596 #494 Posted Sunday at 04:20 PM We've owned a couple of Jeep CJs and helped several people get un stuck. We've always replied to offers of payment or 'buy ya a drink' offers with a polite 'no, but next time you see someone needing help, stop and pay this forward' comment. The worst stuck was a kid who drove his Dodge Dart onto a Lake Superior beach. We had stopped to take some pictures and found him on the beach, rocker panels deep in the water rounded large gravel beach. The waves were getting close to his front bumper.

c-series don 11,347 #496 Posted 23 hours ago Last night I took the 417-A with two stage blower out around 10:00 I got up at 6:00 and it looks like we have over a foot in the area that I cleared. I have my generator ready and plenty of wood staged for the wood stove. Now they are saying up to 30” possible! Although the two- stage is bad ass, I might have to bust out my Ford 545-C loader. However it doesn’t have a cab so that’s going to wait until it’s done snowing. Right now it’s a full on blizzard outside! After almost 40 years in the snow plowing business and now retired from it, it is really weird being home during this. There’s pros and cons to this. The pro is I’m home with my wife and granddaughter. Granddaughter is here because my daughter is a police/fire/EMS dispatcher and my son in law works for the town so he is out plowing. I don’t miss the anxiety of worrying about trucks breaking down or getting stuck or anything else that can go wrong. The cons are that I will miss a windfall of money I would have made and I’m in a very small way missing being out in a big truck with an 11’ plow opening up unplowed roads. There is a bit of a thrill doing that, but it wears off after hours and hours. Heading out to clear the driveway now, pics to follow….
nylyon-(Admin) 8,826 #497 Posted 23 hours ago Right now it’s almost like a white out, the snow picked up in intensity. Westchester county has a travel ban in effect until noon, which makes my kids happy since they work in Westchester! I haven’t started to clean up anything yet, except for a path for my dogs who are absolutely loving this!

This week I got out the plow and pushed the rain-softened banks along the drive and walks back several feet to make room for all this new stuff. Enjoying a quiet breakfast before starting to do battle.
