They Just Don't Get Any More Original

Recommended Posts

WHX??

What's amazing is how clean it is. Usually the first thing they need is a bath. Maybe a little barn dust that's it.

The genny light doesn't go out and lift cable snapped but that's it so far. Not deal breakers by any stretch. Some other very minor issues ... I'm anal retentive...

Maybe tinker abit when The Pullstart gets here tomorrow. Need to get ready for plow day first.

Load up the Lazy Susan with Band-Aids & Peroxide!! :laughing-rolling:

Excellent find. Check your charging voltage at WOT - You may be able to tweak the charging voltage by adjusting the regulator if needed...

Now I know why you were selling the other ones lol

Can't believe that deck is in that good of shape! You almost never see the square decks without rust holes!

Check the wire underneath the regulator. Both my 875 and 1075 had them burnt off.

That cig lighter ain't original. 10 pts. off at the Wheel Horse Concours D' Elegance!  :confusion-seeingstars: :teasing-poke:

(And if you already didn't have one  Welcome to the "Wheel a Matic "club! :banana-dance:

That is a great time capsule.     :confusion-confused:   I wonder if the seat is one of @BOB ELLISON's, he did fantastic work and that looks too good to be sixty years old.

Got a 12 & 1077 if that counts. It really wasn't a bucket list tractor until now. Mike @prondzy had a 877 for sale at a show couple years ago. He had a real nice patina buff on it Ollie. I shoulda bought that one.

Been using the mid mount on a 857 but she needs a new head gasket so switched to a 856. Figured this mid mount work would be really nice on a short hydro. That's when I got a craw for one. Never dreamed I get one this nice.  Was also using the 1077 but a short cuts the corners nicer.

I doubt it Richard PO was never a member here. He doesn't do internet just his wife. He didn't know any history on it.

Just the corners a little ripped but yes for that old.

I think it was used for mowing only in the 60s then put away for years. :confusion-shrug: No theory on how the lift cable got snapped.

Yah Mike that owner must have cleaned the deck regular. I'm gonna go over it and :chores-mowlawn: a little with it just for the halibut. Blades seem to be loose. Has all new belts including the PIA ones on the deck.

Motor does have a brighter patina so maybe something has been done with it. The hydro is not filled with gunk like is often found. Axle seals do weep abit but someone took care of it. Definitely stored inside it's whole life.

New to check list is gonna have to wait until this plow day nonsense is over and I get my shop back ...

Jim  I can’t believe that seat is in that condition. I think that’s your sign right there if that seat is in that kind of shape the rest should be the same hopefully. If I remember correctly, that’s the first year of the auto. I had one no offense I just never liked it the automatics. Guess I’m just a gear banger. I hope you go through it front to back and just enjoy it when done. ALSO IT HAS THE SNOOPY KEY. THAT IS A BONUS. .It is a true wheel horse classic.

Thanks guys .. billies & rednecks my favorite people! When I take a dirt nap one of you bozos is gonna get this one ... keep that in mind.

On the price he was askin for 400 smackaroos and wouldn't budge. Got more in it than that he says ... understandable right? I've used that one many times.

I even tried the old "gonna leave with and empty trailer" bit and "how 'bout little off for gas money" ...Wouldn't budge.

After reading the guy a bit more I played my ace card  and let it out that I was a collector/restorer. Busted out the phone and showed pics.

"Well as long as it's going to a good home" he says... came down abit.

I woulda took it for a couple bennies more! Wasn't gonna take the chance it would go to a horse abuser.

That’s a sweetheart of an original tractor Jim ! Sounds like the same story when I bought my one owner (he passed and I got it from his nephew that didn’t want it) 1057 that I only got him down $25 . I wasn’t leaving it there regardless like you said . Were the engines painted red at Kohler and just installed going down the assembly line ? My 1057 engine though in pictures the color is similar it looks different up close and feels different . Like a difference between a lacquer and an enamel . I have this 856 that from what I can tell is almost all original too. I have no reason to believe the rear tires and rims aren’t original also to the tractor either compared with the 1057 rear rims .

To my knowledge they were. Whatever color their customer wanted. That stopped in later years and then just black.

Real close to your 2nd 📸 depending on the light.
