New Repower in a Raider 12. Electrical Questions.

Recommended Posts

TonyToro Jr.

I am taking the old engine from my Raider 12. It doesn’t have a coil and some sort of voltage regulator under the dash. The ignition switch only had 3 posts too and no solenoid.

The new engine I got has a coil, and solenoid. And 2 wires coming from the alternator.

What type of voltage regulator/rectifier is needed so it will charge?

And guidance and help is appreciated.

Thank you.

What does the regulator under the dash look like?  You may just need a new ignition switch.

Take the two wires coming from your alternator and hook them up to the two outer wires on this regulator see if it works.  I imagine your ignition switch was one of the heavy duty ones used back then One heavy wire to Battery one to the starter motor and a small wire to the coil.  For testing you could just take the center wire from your regulator to the battery positive see if it charges

Buy a 103990 ignition switch and follow this diagram and you should have everything you need.

So we have it running!

It has the 103990 ignition switch.

But still not sure how to hook up the charging system.

EDIT-

@953 nut

Looked at your diagram again and I see what you’re saying. 2 wires from the stator go the the 2 outside posts. And the one in the middle go to the ignition switch. Got it!
