Mid-mount grader blade question

Will a mid-mount grader blade work to tear up weeds and restore gravel on a gravel parking lot? The area is getting some grass on it.

You would have better results if you could loosen the surface first with workers or a harrow.  Depending on how firm the surface is it can be impossible to grade.

It is a grader blade, not an excavator. Once it has been loosened the blade will grade it smooth. A subsoiler may be able to break it loose.

We've considered having a grader blade with a row of "teeth".

Perhaps a separate bolt on 🔩 edge. 

Not sure on tooth count. Maybe less is better......?

I have used my home built pulverizer on my gravel drive to get the grass out. It's still a tough job, as you still have to seperate the grass from the gravel.  Best to kill the grass before trying to remove it.

The county uses dump trucks with belly blades to grade the gravel roads around here. Some of them have a cutting edge on them with"teeth" - serrations like 60 degree triangles maybe 1 1/2" on a side.

I made up a short scarifier to fit my 42" WH plow. When not in use, it flips up out of the way...

The biggest issue with the WH mid graders is the fact it's pretty light weight. They want to skid more than dig. You need a solid lift link and you just about have to stand on the top edge. You need something heavy with teeth.

Or you can find an old worn out commercial scrape blade and cut you a thick one from the wear bar. This one weighs about 80lbs. 

 

Got mine from Don @Lee1977 and fabbed the rest. It will spin the tires on the tractor without jumping just because of the weight.

I've got a 600 foot gravel drive. Over the years I tried a box scraper, grader blade, drag and other ways to get rid of the weeds and level it. I finally bought a DR Power Equipment power grader. I've used it for the last 8 years with great results. I let 2 of my friends try it and they both bought one. Fist thing to do is go to your local farm store a get a commercial weed killer and spray the area to kill the roots, then grade and roll the gravel, I use my C-101 with no problems. After a couple of uses, you'll have a new parking area.

Not cheap but do yourself a favor, go to the website and watch the video.
