Help identify this tiller?

Recommended Posts

ebinmaine

While at a fellas house this morning to get his '92 520H I was helping shuffle some things to access the snowblower.

This tiller was one of the objects.

He offered to give it to me and I figured with some help I could get it going sometime or find someone who will.

I did do some quick interwebs poking.

The tiller appears to be the predecessor of Troybilt.
RototilleR Model 2
Likely 1952 - 54

I'm NO expert.  Just things I'm finding online similar to mine.

The engine is a Clinton. Model 801 I think?

It'll need a carb repair or replacement as this one got knocked around at some point.

He gave me a nice wooden box full of extras.

I'm hoping to bring 5 tractors so space will be at a premium.

Let's see how the week unfolds.....

I thought so too.

The PO said they were a lighter duty tine meant for cultivation.

I've never seen these.

Right !!! Catches on your shoe laces or pant leg and twists you right in there so now your body parts are the garden fertilizer.

Well at least there's a side benefit.

They are called pick tines.  Designed for rocky soil.  Father had a set on an very old troy bilt.  They will not do well if you are till sod or grassy areas.  Sounds perfect for your clay and rocks in Maine!!

I am pretty sure that the first tiller father had was this one.  Troy-bilt / Gardenway used Clinton engines.  His had a front mounted sickle bar he used to cut our back lot. I think he got it in the late 40svery early 50s

They might be cultivating tines.  Need a better look.

1054 Project

Troy-Bilt offered optional tines for rocky soils that looked just like these.
